Inspired by the imagery of popular culture, Pop Art both celebrated and criticized consumption choices and mass (re)production achieving the enormous success in the course of the next five decades and beyond. The artist who played a major role in the development of the new movement was Andy Warhol. He was a true mastermind of his time creating some of the most iconic images of the 20th century that re-defined many concepts and introduced fresh ones that became new standards in no time. "I just paint things I always thought were beautiful, things you use every day and never think about." Warhol's statement epitomizes his ethos; his works put ordinary items front and center.
