CARVED WOODEN BUST OF HITLER E. RENNER

Larger-than-life wooden bust of Adolf Hitler. Stamped "E. RENNER" along neckline and two inked encircled swastikas on base of neck. Measures approximately 14" from neck to top of head. Purportedly used as a model for bronze busts. Several small indentations and bumps, loss to ear and repair to cheek. Bust has a consistent patina including on damage. Overall in very good condition. This lot has a reserve.

CENTRAL AMERICAN SOAPSTONE AND JADITE CARVINGS

Lot # 2059 (Sale Order: 59 of 822)      

A high relief carved soapstone platter or large pendant and two smaller jadeite mask pendants. The soapstone piece measures 12-3/4 inches (32.5 cm) long by 6-1/2 inches (16.5 cm) at the widest. The soapstone is carved into a roughly tear-drop shape and carved with sinuous serpents with dragon-like heads similar to depictions of Quetzalcoatl from central America and the Yucatan Peninsula. The faces of the two mask pendants distinctly resemble Olmec human effigy carvings. Both are frowning faces with downturned mouths, flattened noses and furrowed brows. One measure 2-3/4 in long by 1-3/4 ion wide at the ears. The second and smaller pendant measures 2 inches long by 1-1/2 inch wide. Both have small drilled holes at the margins of the foreheads and are carved and polished from greenstone, possibly jadeite.

WOODEN AFRICAN DAN MASK WEST AFRICAN ARTIFACT

Lot # 2065 (Sale Order: 65 of 822)      

Wooden West African Dan mask possibly used for ceremonial or ritual purposes. Dan masks were believed to have protective properties. This mask has the typical high forehead, high pouting lips, and a nose. The eyes and mouth are carved out, so that the mask can be used. There are two small holes at either side with a rope attached. There is also a small hole under the chin. The reverse has some missing wood, but overall very good condition. Measures 10 inches tall by 6 inches wide.

ST GEORGE & DRAGON PLATTER LYNDHURST PLANTATION

Lot # 2074 (Sale Order: 74 of 822)      

A large platter or shallow bowl with an interior scene depicting the Medieval legend of Saint George and the Dragon. The scene is in relief with St George on horseback with spear embedded in a dragon. The scene covers the entire interior surface rim to rim. The raised elements are white on a textured field of light blue. The exterior (underside) is undecorated and shows minor crazing, only visible if the piece is turned over. The bottom of the piece has the impressed "beehive" Bindenschild shield maker's mark of Royal Vienna pottery and the impressed numbers "5155-2." The numbers are in the center of the base, the Bindenschild is along the base rim centered above the numbers and properly oriented as a shield. At the 5 o'clock position along the base rim is an impressed "C" next to a reversed "D" in black (not impressed). The platter measures 32.5 cm (14 inches) in diameter and 5.5 cm (2-1/4 in) deep. The piece is in overall good condition. There are 2 small chips in the slip along the rim showing the cream-colored interior paste. The impressed maker's mark is consistent with Royal Vienna pottery manufactured after 1827.

FLORAL LIMOGES PORCELAIN TRAY LYNDHURST PLANTATION

Lot # 2075 (Sale Order: 75 of 822)      

A small porcelain leaf-shaped tray or plate from the Lyndhurst Plantation, Greenville, Florida. The piece measures 18 cm by 17 cm by 1.5 cm tall (7 in by 6-3/4 in by 5/8 in). The circular base measures 13 cm (5-1/8 in) in diameter and bears a ROYAL, Limoges, France mark in gold. The plate is decorated with a central floral pattern incorporating roses and leaves in gold gilt. The rim of the piece is scalloped and asymmetric creating a leaf-like effect. The rim is decorated in gold extending inward toward the center creating a running or melting, wax-like effect. The gold elements have a visible and tactile texture and may be applied gold-leaf. The piece is in good to very good condition. No chips or cracks are visible.
