JADE FIGURE OF SHOU LAO FROM LYNDHURST PLANTATION

Lot # 2078 (Sale Order: 78 of 822)      

A carved spinach jade figure of Shou Lao, Chinese God of Longevity. The figure is depicted in traditional fashion-with enlarged cranium holding a staff and a peach. The figure sits on a hand-carved wood base which fits the bottom of the figure exactly. The 11-cm (4-1/4 in) tall carving was at one point glued to the wooden base. Glue residue is visible on the base of the figure as well as the inset in the wooden base. The figure is in good to very good condition with no defects or issues evident.

CHINESE JADE FIGURINE W BASE LYNDHURST PLANTATION

Lot # 2079 (Sale Order: 79 of 822)      

The figurine depicts a standing Chinese man in robes with long beard , right hand to abdomen holding a pipe which lays along the right forearm and extends to near the shoulder. The figure stands on a three-legged carved wooden base, The figurine measures 11.5 cm- in height (4-1/2 inches), with the base the total height is 13.5 cm (5-1/4 inches). The figurine is affixed to an inset carved in the base. The jade is cream-colored to white, with brown and red-brown color at the left shoulder and the back of the left arm. The bowl of the pipe at the right shoulder is slightly pale green. The figurine is in moderate to good condition with a corner of the lower flowing robe broken with a piece missing.

A blue eyed Siamese Cat figurine marked "Beswick England 1559." A ceramic effigy mug of a grinning bespectacled doctor (marked FYN). A vintage Weller large Woodcraft Squirrel Nut Dish. All three items are repaired.

INUIT SOAPSTONE CARVINGS FROM LYNDHURST PLANTATION

Lot # 2082 (Sale Order: 82 of 822)      

Three hand-carved Inuit soapstone figurines from the Lyndhurst Plantation, Greenville, Florida. The first is a highly detailed depiction of an Inuit hunter holding furs in the right hand with rifle slung over the left shoulder, strap held in left hand. the figurine measures 13.5 cm (5-1/4 in) by 5.3 cm wide (2 in) by 3.3 cm deep (1-1/4 in). The figurine is in good condition. The second figurine depicts an Inuit wrestling a bear. The male figure and the bear are locked in a headlock creating an arch in carved soapstone. The raw gray to cream-colored soapstone material is the same as in the first figure. A fur pattern is carved on the bear making it distinctly lighter in color than the human figure giving the impression that it is a polar bear. Overall dimensions are 9 cm tall (3-1/2 in) by 9.5 cm wide (3-3/4 in) by 5 cm deep (2 in). The figurine is in good condition. The third figure is a carved and polished greenstone depiction of a seal measuring 11.5 cm tall (4-1/2 in) by 9 cm deep (3-1/2 in) by 5 cm wide (2 in). The bottom of the figure has two carved inscriptions that overlap. The first is likely the artists signature "DIMU." The second inscription is somewhat superimposed on the signature "LABRADOR, NFLD, 1975." An applied color label is also present on the bottom bearing the Canadian Maple Leaf and "STEPHENVILLE, NEWFOUNDLAND." The figurine is in good condition.

CARVED AND POLISHED BONE SAILING SHIP MODELS

Lot # 2086 (Sale Order: 86 of 822)      

Two sailing ship models hand-carved from bone. The first depicts a three masted warship with elaborate fore and aft castles, 12 cannons on the starboard side and 14 on the port side. Every element of the ship model is carved bone except fo the sails and rigging (cloth and string respectively). The model measure 11-1/2 inches long, 3-1/2 in wide at the stern castle, and 12 inches tall. The ship model is in fair to good condition, missing the rear wall of the stern castle and evidence of repairs at the stern. The second model is glues to a black plastic triangular base. The ship model itself measures 9 inches long by 1-1/2 inches wide and 6 inches tall. The model is of a relatively modern racing full-rigged ship with three masts and a propeller. Everything except the rigging is made from carved bone, including the sails. The model is in good condition.

FOSSIL IVORY HAND CARVED MODEL SHIP MARIE II

Lot # 2087 (Sale Order: 87 of 822)      

A carving in fossil ivory of a three-masted sailing ship with the name "Marie II" carved at the stern. All but the Yardarms, rudder, keel, anchor and anchor chain are of carved fossil ivory. The yardarms, keel, and rudder are wood. The model ship is depicted at anchor with the keel and the anchor glued to a porous rock. A carved post is attached to the starboard side bow and glued to the rock for additional support. The model is in fair condition. The model has detached from the keel with remains glued to the stone. Several pieces of railing are missing from the deck, other deck components are also missing with just glue residue and outlines indicating former locations.

CIGAR STORE INDIAN ON PEDESTAL W PIPE AND HATCHET

Lot # 2088 (Sale Order: 88 of 822)      

The overall piece consists of two elements: a plaster Indian figure and the wooden plinth (pedestal) which also conveys the advertisement "Cigars 5 cents." Overall the piece stands 6-ft, the Indian figure is 40-inches tall (1.05 m) [42-1/2 inches tall including the plaster base on which the figure stands], and the wooden plinth measuring 32-inches tall (81.25 cm). The figure is depicted in mid-stride,, holding a long-stemmed pipe in his left hand and a hatchet held upright and against the chest with the right hand. The Indian figure is dressed in a style reminiscent of the southern plains and/or the Southwest US; with yellow buckskin moccasins and leggings, a blue-green skirt with a red belt and silver buckle, and a turquoise necklace of 18 beads and 7 pendants. The base of the plinth measures 21-inches X 21 1/2-inches (53.3 cm X 54.6 cm). The pipe stem is 8-inches long and appears intact with no evidence of repair. The piece is in good condition. This lot has a reserve.
