1920'S AFRICAN SIERRA LEONE GONGOLI MASK

Glenn Taylor Rosselot was a Missionary to Sierra Leone (Shenga) in the early 1920's and. This mask is from the Gongoli. Carved wood face is 19 by 11 inches. With tied applied grass and horse hair. Very good condition with the raffia being brittle but intact.

AFRICAN LUBA SHOOWA CARVED IVORY ELEPHANT TUSK

Young African elephant tusk carved with geometric, shoowa pattern from the Luba culture of the Bantu people in the central Congo region (Modern-day DRC) c. early-20th century. Uncarved and highest relief areas have good luster. Tusk measures approximately 11 inches in length, 10 cm girth at the base; pulp cavity has been treated for preservation and marked with museum accession information (E1999-Z-7). HORSE HAIR BRIDLE DEER LODGE PRISON B BAR C

Attributed to Albert Garcia and produced in Deer Lodge Prison, Montana, no hardware or buckles for adjustment making it even more intricate and unique in its design and workmanship, continuous reins measure 41 inches, all hitching is sound and shows no signs of wear , gray in color with black leather braiding, geometric diamond patterns are in shades of red and blue. The elaborate silver inlay bit is stamped B-C and is intricately engraved with wagon wheel accents, excellent condition circa 1968. This lot has a reserve.

AFRICAN LUBA GROUP CUPS FUNNEL HOOK & HORN

Lot # 8100 (Sale Order: 100 of 575)      

Two carved cups, one funnel, and one drinking horn(?) from the Luba culture of the Bantu people in the central Congo region (Modern-day DRC) all early- to mid-20th century. 1) A cup which features the shoowa scarification pattern of the Kuba supported by the ikula knife symbolic of royalty (measures 23 cm high); one side is split near the ikula knife edge and one area of repair is evident. 2) The other cup, also with the geometric shoowa pattern is supported by hands and decorated with a square knot motif; some museum restoration apparent (measures 18.5 cm in height). 3) A carved wood funnel with shoowa pattern (measures 21.5 cm in height) with signs of restoration. 4) An incised African buffalo horn, likely a drinking horn, but with metal rings at the mouth and a drilled hole at the tip. The pattern is a loosely structured shoowa geometric line motif. 5) small shoowa carved Luba hook (measures 9cm in length). The pieces are in very good condition and are display-ready. Items include museum accession information (E1999-Z-8, 9, 10, 11, and 15). From the collection of The Mary Brogan Museum of Arts and Science, Tallahassee, FL.
