WWI USMC 5TH BRIGADE CORPORAL UNIFORM

Lot # 2053 (Sale Order: 53 of 346)      

Uniform tunic is made by the House of Kuppenheimer, named to Courtley. Buttons on the tunic are made by Extra Quality, and Hamburger Inc. The left sleeve has an early 5th Brigade patch, rank of Corporal, an orange chevron and three gold chevrons, medical patch, and two gold chevrons. Trousers are also named to Courtley. Whole uniform is in very good condition.

1929 US NAVY ALASKAN AERIAL SURVEY PHOTO ALBUM

Lot # 2057 (Sale Order: 57 of 346)      

In 1929 the USS Gannett towing a barge which served as a photo lab left on a never before attempted aerial mapping expedition of remote Alaska. Arthur Radford aviation pioneer commanded the survey. The team flew Leonig OL-8 Amphibian Aircraft. This original photo album details the expeditions incredible photography, truly capturing the pioneer feel. Includes citizens on fishing trips with crew members, always an armed guard present in the event of bears, Glaciers, vast pristine forests, Totem poles, entire crew photos, villages, aircraft mishap, photographers and their gear, aerial photograph of early Juneau, Ketchikan, photos of Admiral Calhoun. Photos are all very good, the album is fair.

ARCHIVE OF BATAAN MARCH SURVIVOR ELDWIN EAGLE

Lot # 2058 (Sale Order: 58 of 346)      

Included are items that belonged to Eldwin Eagle, a survivor of the Bataan death march. Lot includes trench art set made from a canteen, 2 spoons, mess kit, 2 table medals of the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor, copy of Brave And Bold belonging to Eldwin, various pin back medals, and a metal sign labeled "American Defenders Of Bataan and Corregidor". Documents include a letter to Rose Eagle (wife of Eldwin) informing her that her husband’s name has been inscribed at Freedoms Foundation in a permanent Memorial Book provided by the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor, an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army, a certificate of death from the state of Michigan, two photographs which feature Eldwin, one letter in an envelope addressed to E.G. Eagle, and a letter Written by Edward E. Eagle (Eldwin's son) detailing what he knew of his father's ordeal. All items have expected wear and show of age; overall in very good condition.

1918 WWI Propaganda poster by James Montgomery Flagg. Children couldn’t afford liberty bonds, but to encourage them to support the war, the government sold war savings stamps worth 10 cents and 25 cents. Like war bonds, the stamps paid interest. In this poster, Uncle Sam teaches children a lesson not only about patriotism but about the importance of saving. Measures at 32.5 x 22.5 framed and 29.5 by 19.5 without the frame. There is a quarter sized water mark on the left lower side and two small tear marks at the bottom, otherwise very good condition.

VINTAGE WWII A CARELESS WORD..ANOTHER CROSS POSTER

Lot # 2061 (Sale Order: 61 of 346)      

Vintage 1943 "A Careless Word....Another Cross" poster by John Atherton (1900-1952). This poster is a great image that has been recognized for its quality by graphic arts publications. A stark white cross with the GI's helmet and ammo belt shows the consequences of a careless word. Prevention of espionage was a major concern during WW2 and in all wars. Original folds with a 2.5 inch tear at the top and some minor nicks. Measures framed at 41.5 by 30 inches and poster measures at 38.5 by 27 inches.

Poster measures at 27.5 by 19.5 inches and framed measures at 30.5 by 22.5 inches. Overall in very good condition.

WWII NORTHLAND US MILITARY SKIS WITH POLES & SHOES

Lot # 2064 (Sale Order: 64 of 346)      

Raised ridge skis are 210 cm and marked with "Northland / US/ St. Paul Minn" (under tips) and "US / 1-44 / OK" 11454 / 41" (between front and back binding on top). Two piece bindings are stamped "Dovre" on both plates and "Dovre Kabel" on latches. 118 cm poles are metal and have red paint over original white. One basket is missing. Leather hand grips are intact but one lanyard loop is broken. Ankle boots are present and in very good condition (no size noted). Overall very good condition.

Very comprehensive photo album belonging to Adam Godek, USMC Marine Detachment Anti Aircraft Gunnery USS Astoria 1937 1938, the Astoria was sunk in 1942 at the Battle of Savo Island, lots of shipboard life and ports of call, San Francisco, Hawaii, photos of the officers and crew, great boxing match photos, signatures with comments from ship mates, about 100 photos in all in a leather bound album, one of the better albums we have seen.

Two tunics from same 1st LT. included is khaki tropical tunic with embroidered collars and epaulets (1LT ). In-country made CBI and AAF shoulder patches. Includes matching belt and overseas cap with Sterling ATC badge. All in very good condition. Also included is a PP (Hart, Schaffner & Marx) dress tunic the same rank (sterling) and clutch back devices. Presidential unit citation to right breast. Two piece Superior buttons. Left sleeve carries 4 hashes in bullion. Original waist belt is present. Also includes tie and pant belt. All in very good condition. Both tunics have ribbons for American, European-North African-middle Eastern plus Asiatic-Pacific campaigns with service star. Nicotine smells to both units.

New to the market direct from veterans estate, Flying Tiger uniform grouping, includes tunic with bullion in-country CBI patch, staff SGT cloth insignia, sterling Aerial Gunner wings, ribbon rack with six star campaign ribbon, air medal, Presidential unit citation, Army Air Corp collar insignia, Flying Tiger patch and ruptured duck, small size 38, free of mothing and damage,two shirts one wool and one khacki, staining to this shirt, each with cloth CBI, rank and gunner patches, each a size 14.5, garrison cap with Air Corp piping, wool trousers and a third wool shirt without insignia but there is a set of patches and cloth insignia not attached, also four khacki ties.

Seabees attached with Marines whilst in pacific, overseas cap with sterling Seabees pin and EGA, USMC approved tag size 6 7/8, the tunic is Quartermaster stamped inside sleeve and dated 1942-43 the opposite sleeve is named to E.C. Riley, about a size 40, Seabees patch. PO 3 cloth rank insignia, Machinist Mate striker badge, Marksman bar, ribbon row, EGA buttons as well as EGA insignia, very good condition free of mothing, repairs or damage.
