Brass belt cartridge box with lid stamped "B. KITTREDGE & CO GUN DEALERS CIN. OHIO PATENTED, JAN. 27, 1863 REISSUED, APL. 14, 63.". Box measures 4.5" (wide) x 3.5" (tall) and 2" (deep). Box in near mint condition with stamping light on cover. Brass exhibits some toning. These boxes have long been associated with Henry rifles and Wesson carbines to carry bulk brass ammunition. Revolutionary War Powder horn of John Elder, 10th Pennsylvania, 1777

Lot # 5026 (Sale Order: 27 of 289)      

Revolutionary War Powder horn of John Elder (1757-1811) measuring 3" at butt and 11" in length. Butt wood is post-contemporary with horn. Scrimshawed design features text"THIS HORN BELON TO JOHN ELDER 10TH PENNSYLVANIA CAP. J. STONER'S Co. DAUPHIN CTY 1777 A.D." as well as star type fort and eagle designs. John Elder (1757-1811) is buried in the Paxton Presbyterian Cemetery in Harrisburg Pennsylvania. Surface of the horn exhibits some wear with areas of scrimshaw being light. Model 1850 Staff & Field Sword

Lot # 5027 (Sale Order: 28 of 289)      

Model 1850 Officer's Staff and Field sword by the Solingen firm of Gebruder Weyersberg and imported by W.H. Horstmann & Sons, Philadelphia. Sword measures 37.25" (blade 31"). Blade is acid etched on both sides with military motifs and floral designs and a central"U.S." on one side of blade and other presents spread winged eagle with pennant containing words"E PLURIBUS UNUM". Back spine of blade presents raised wording"IRON PROOF". On the obverse of the blades ricasso is etched "W. H. HORSTMANN & SONS, PHILADELPHIA" while the reverse ricasso presents a stamped king's bearded head. Grip is covered in rayskin and wire. Brass hilt features large cutout letters"US" surrounded by cutout foliate. Sword is housed in steel scabbard that exhibits some buffing to the brass furniture. Sword exhibits large amount of remaining gilt and exhibits some wear to rayskin grip.

Model 1850 Staff & Field Sword

Model 1850 Officer's Staff and Field sword by a foreign maker and imported by W.H. Horstmann & Sons, Philadelphia. Sword measures 40.5" (blade 34.5"). Civil War period cavalry saber and belt rig consisting of; 1.) Civil War cavalry saber measuring 40.75" (blade 34.75"). Ricasso of sword marked "U.S. DFM 1864" with opposite ricasso marked "EMERSON & SILVER TRENTON". Stamping is light with blade exhibiting some graying. Sword guard exhibits some darkening, grip exhibits loss to wire wrap and scabbard exhibits some light pitting to surface. 2.) Dyed buff belt rig with rectangular NCO buckle exhibiting applied single-piece German nickel silver wreath. Plate presents reverse bench number "154" and keeper presents bench number "359". Belt exhibits some dryness.

High grade United States artillery officer's saber (circ 1815-1830) measuring 35.5" (blade 32.5) with pressed bone grip and langet presenting a circular device with 15-stars and the Latin motto "PARTA TEURI". Saber grip exhibits decorative gilted knucklebow and blued and gold inlaid blade. Sword in excellent condition. Grip exhibits single crack, with blade exhibiting light corrosion to some panels and some light blade spotting. Sword housed in plain gilted scabbard.

Evans Sporting Rifle

Lot # 5036 (Sale Order: 37 of 289)      

New Model Evans Sporting rifle in .44 cal with 26" octagonal barrel with top of barrel marked "EVANS SPORTING RIFLE". It is believed that rifles marked in this manner were constructed from part after the company went bankrupt in 1879. This 26-round rifle exhibits checkered forestock and assembly number "256" on various pieces (scratched under barrel, stamped on interior of forestock wood, as well as on the interior wood portions of the top and bottom stock parts. Rifle presents nickeled silver front blade sight. Rifle presents good bore with strong original bluing. Rifle exhibits small scrape on left side of receiver, some slight abrasions to wood of stock and forestock, and some light surface rust/spotting to buttplate.

Old Model Evans Sporting rifle in .44 cal with 28" octagonal barrel with top of barrel extremely lightly marked "Evans Repeating Rifle/Pat. Dec 8, 1868 & Sept. 16, 1871". This 28-round rifle exhibits assembly number "75" on various pieces (under barrel, stamped on interior of forestock wood, on metal interior spring, as well as on the interior wood portion of the top stock. Rifle lacks front blade sight and presents peep sight at rear (not Evans issue). Rifle presents fair bore with surface of gun exhibiting graying. Rifle exhibits crack in 9.5" forestock, shrinkage to stock and is missing screw at bottom of buttplate.

Receiver stamped on left plate with"MERIDEN MANFG CO. / MERIDEN, CONN." and breech tang stamped"TRIPLETT & SCOTT / PATENT DEC. 6, 1864". This 7-shot carbine used metallic rimfire cartridges. Carbine exhibits a good bore with some dirt. Metal surface of carbine is toned with gray and exhibits some marbling. Wood of carbine exhibits a crack to stock and several gouges/abrasions to forestock.

Receiver tang stamped in two-lines"REMINGTON'S, ILION, N.Y. PAT. DEC.23, MAY3 & NOV. 16, 1864". This rolling-block carbine is rack marked on stock"113" and presents ordnance inspector's marks on stock of DAP (Dwight A. Perkins) and CGC (C.G. Chandler). Buttplate top is marked"US". Carbine exhibits a good bore. Metal surface of carbine retain some of its bluing and case hardening. Wood of carbine exhibits a crack to stock and several gouges with several small splinters with loss at tang.

Carbine incorporates the Maynard automatic priming system into the lock. Carbine presents much of its color and case hardening.
