Early to Late Archaic Wing Nut/ Butterfly Bannerstone

Lot # 44

Origin: Butler Co., Missouri. Material: Light, pinkish/tan Ferruginous Quartzite. Length: 2-7/8". Width: 1-9/16". Grade: Museum. This is a small size 'wing nut' bannersto...morene that appears to have been salvaged from a larger 'butterfly' type specimen. Ancient rework appears to indicate this particular piece has been altered from its original form. The lower wing protrusions were likely removed due to some ancient damage & reworked to salvage the piece. The hole is well constructed, showing good cylindrical drilling striations & use-wear. Nice, naturally aged patina & use-wear with high gloss. Good deposits & authigenic accumulations. Authentication by Butler.
