Fine Engraved Colt Single Action Army Revolver

Lot # 146 (Sale Order: 146 of 1253)

***Update: Engraved by Welden E. Bledsoe*** serial #355765, 45 Colt, 7 1/2 barrel with a bright excellent bore which appears very much unfired. The metal surfaces of this nice revolver feature near overall, nice quality loose flowing scroll, showing some very nice intertwining and background punch-dot shading. The metal surfaces retain about 99% excellent quality engraver or perhaps Colt blue, the right lower root of the triggerguard is indeed stamped with an & signifying factory refinish or service. The quality of the engraving is quite nice and it appears to be signed beneath the lower right recoil shield with a single stamp which cannot readily be discerned. The arm wears a nice pair of mother-of-pearl grips which rate very good plus to near excellent, the left grip missing a small flake at the rear butt and at upper junction of frame and backstrap. The left grip is smooth while the right grip is carved-in-relief with a depiction of a longhorn steer head with faceted ruby chip eyes. Interestingly the arm has been fitted with a lanyard loop on its butt, the work is flawless and appears to be factory. The faces of the cylinder, forcing cone and breech area, and the firing pin bushing are immaculate and the gun is certainly unfired since being embellished. The gun times well and locks up smartly. Really a very nice 1937-manufactured single action Army with quality engraving after the style of Wilbur Glahn. (37162-1)

The metal surfaces rate very good plus and retain about 90-95% of their factory original blued finish, but do exhibit silvering around the muzzle as well as along the cylinder and portions crane; the cylinder also exhibits the faintest signs of a turn ring which has yet to breach the bluing. In addition, the left side of the triggerguard displays a light file cut. The hammer sides display bright polished metal. The checkered walnut Colt grips rate very good plus but do exhibit some minor light dings along the bases. The Colt factory markings along the barrel are filled with white lacquer stick which can be easily removed. Colt Officer'S Model Third Issue Double Action Revolver

Lot # 148 (Sale Order: 148 of 1253)

serial #643765, 32 Colt, 6" heavy barrel with an excellent, bright bore. The metal surfaces rate excellent and retain 98% plus of their factory original blued finish, but do exhibit the faintest signs of a turn ring which has yet to breach the bluing; the spine in particular displays strong blue, while the hammer sides display bright polished metal. The checkered walnut Colt grips rate excellent and without blemish. It is likely that this revolver has remained unfired since leaving the Colt factory. Included with the revolver are a cleaning brush, screwdriver, target, and a correct likely original factory box which is numbered to the revolver. The factory box does exhibit some damage along its edges as well as fraying, but is near excellent relative to its age. This configuration of Officer's Model is less often encountered, with production estimates placing the number of units between only 800-1500. In addition, the box features an added end label with red border which denotes that the revolver belonged to a Lt. Thomas E. Pierce; while no prominent history was found, further research may provide insight into the genealogy of this revolver. (137136-19) {C&R}

Colt Single Action Army Revolver

Lot # 149 (Sale Order: 149 of 1253)

serial #275060, 38 WCF, 4 3/4 barrel with a very good bore which is mostly bright showing strong rifling but with scattered minor pitting. The metal surfaces are an overall dull gunmetal gray with interspersed light oxidation staining. There are scattered minor handling and tool marks, especially in the area ahead of the cylinder pin on the underside of the barrel. The cylinder shows a couple areas of longitudinal scoring and there are a few widely scattered light pits with light pitting all along the bottom of the ejector rod housing. The revolver wears a custom-made pair of walnut grips with circular mother-of-pearl inlays. They are fairly well-made but do not fit the frame precisely and are held on with a common hardware screws. The gun times well for the most part and locks up slightly loose, occasionally over-timing, and the cylinder has a bit of endshake. A signed statement that accompanies the arm states that this revolver and the Winchester 1876 included in the sale came from a ranch in the Cody Wyoming area around 1949 and that both are from the CR Reynolds collection , indeed the gun shows some muzzle and ejector rod wear consistent with a good deal of holster use. A respectable fast draw Single Action Army certainly with a Western heritage, manufactured in 1906. (37115-29)

Colt U.S. Model 1873 Single Action Army Cavalry Revolver

Lot # 150 (Sale Order: 150 of 1253)

serial #12759, 45 Colt, 7 1/2 barrel with a fair-poor bore which shows evident rifling but has moderate, and some heavy, pitting its full length. The metal surfaces of barrel are a pleasing fairly smooth gray-dark gray patina with light pinprick pitting and most of the barrel address still legible. The frame is a similar hue with a bit more toning to a bright pewter and some areas of pitting slightly more prominent with silvery case-hardening above the loading gate. The cylinder shows slightly more rounding to the flutes and a slight softening of the loading notches, it has scattered light pitting and is numbered 2759. The triggerguard is a gunmetal gray patina as is the backstrap, the backstrap with perhaps a bit more pitting. Numbers on frame, guard, barrel and butt all match and a capital A Ainsworth inspectors mark is faint but visible to the rear of the serial number on the guard. The smooth one piece walnut grip rates very good showing perhaps an old light cleaning with some remnants of varnish and a faint left-side cartouche. There is no serial number on the interior of the grip however V. Earre or perhaps Farre has scratched his name into that cut; initial research can turn nothing up on the name. The grip is slightly under around its periphery but fits well at the frame. The gun seems to time and lock up well however either trigger or hammer need some minor mechanical attention as the hammer sits slightly too far forward for the loading notch to be functional. Overall a nice U.S. model 1873 cavalry revolver, still in its original configuration with a nice frontier-used to look to it. (37160-3) {ANTIQUE}
