Colt Model 1862 Police Percussion Revolver

Lot # 301 (Sale Order: 301 of 1029)

serial #13003, .36 cal., 6 1/2" barrel with a very good bore which is bright with strong rifling showing light scattered oxidation and some pinprick pitting. The barrel retains a nice 70% original blue, the balance toning to plum with some light dings and handling marks, the loading lever with some smoky mottled case colors. The cylinder retains perhaps 40% original blue, strongest within the flutes, and is primarily smooth with some light handling marks and perhaps a scattered pit here or there, there are remnants of the hammer rest pins intact. The frame exhibits some mottled gray case-hardening showing some nice muting colors on its left flat. Trigger has remnants of pale temper blue, the hammer with some mottled color case-hardening. The straps are primarily a goldenrod patina with some generous trace silver plate on the triggerguard. The one piece walnut grip rates about excellent with much original varnish and only minor dings and handling marks from the years, it is numbered to the gun in antique ink pen. All of the numbers are matching including the wedge and the revolver seems to function well mechanically. Really a very fine example overall of a long-barreled 1862 police. (37863-6) {ANTIQUE}

U.S. Model 1909 Army Double Action Revolver by Colt

Lot # 302 (Sale Order: 302 of 1029)

serial #45694, 45 Colt, 5 1/2" barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces on this nice Model 1909 retain about 95-97% original blue, the loss is due to some light muzzle and holster wear with the backstrap having toned to a plum showing remnants of some very light oxidation. The trigger shows some very good pale fire temper blue with light wear on its face while the spine of the hammer shows nice blue as well, the bright finished sides of the hammer showing the slightest bit of tiny oxidation in the area of the spur. All of the markings are crisp including Rinaldo Carrs initials and circled "WGP" at upper right of frame. The smooth walnut grips rate very good with minor dings and handling marks and light wear along the edges of the butt. They are "RAC" stamped on their butts but are pencil-numbered to a different gun on the interior, their fit however is very nearly perfect. The lanyard loop is missing from the bottom of the butt but this should be a very easy item to come across. The gun times and locks up perfectly. Really a very lovely example of these sought-after New Service 1909 Army Model revolvers. (37801-15) {C&R}

Colt Single Action Army Revolver

Lot # 303 (Sale Order: 303 of 1029)

serial #161593, 38 WCF, 4 3/4" barrel with a fair to near good bore which shows evident rifling but with minor pitting and oxidation its full length. The barrel retains trace original blue and is primarily a dull gray and brown patina with some light oxidation staining and light pinprick pitting near the muzzle. The cylinder is mostly a dull plum brown with light oxidation and some very light pitting, more prominent within the flutes. The frame has some remnants of silvery case-hardening, with pewter undertones and overall light oxidation staining and scattered light pitting. Triggerguard and backstrap have faded to a smooth brown patina with some generous traces of original blue at the root of the guard. The checkered hard rubber Rampant Colt grips rate very good and good, the left grip showing a chip at its leading lower edge at the butt; they are scratch-numbered to the gun. The base pin head seems to be is scarred up but the revolver functions well mechanically and was manufactured in 1895. Included with the gun is a small manila tag with antique ink pen writing which reads: "This pistol belonged to your uncle George Martin Price who used it on the battleship Raleigh at the Battle of Manila" furthermore it states that it then went to uncle James Edward Price and she is leaving it to some unnamed person as a memento of their uncles and it is signed Katharine O. Price. Overall a very interesting Single Action Army revolver, somewhat salty but still a nice representative example, and who knows, it could have been present at the Battle of Manila. Colt Officers Model Double Action Revolver

Lot # 304 (Sale Order: 304 of 1029)

serial #275115, 38 Special, 6" barrel with a bright excellent bore which shows a couple spots of very light oxidation or perhaps tiny pits about halfway down its length on one of the lands. The metal surfaces on this nice revolver retain about 97% original bright blue, the loss due to some light flaking to plum, along with some high edge wear, primarily on the cylinder. The trigger exhibits lovely pale fire temper blue and has a nicely checkered face while the hammer has strong fire blue on the spine with the bright finished sides brilliant showing perhaps a few tiny spots of oxidation. Fire blue remains on the stock screw and rear sight and the gun times and locks up as tightly as the day it left Colt in 1908. The factory checkered walnut grips rate about excellent with much original varnish and crisp checkering, they are assembly-numbered to the gun in pencil on their interior. Really a very lovely First Model Officers Model target revolver overall. (37801-14) {C&R}

California Percussion Halfstock Sporting And Target Rifle by Koppikus

Lot # 305 (Sale Order: 305 of 1029)

.44 cal., 32" octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces on this lovely Sacramento gun are a mix of smooth plum brown and pewter underlying metal. There are a few spots of widely scattered very light oxidation and the odd ding or handling mark here and there, with some very light vise bite marks near the breech. There is a simple globe front sight in place, the rear slot is blanked, there is a simple aperture sight affixed to the long iron tang. The top flat is marked "Koppikus Sacramento", a marking which appears identically on the lockplate. The hammer is rather graceful and the patent breech and tang have a nice swirled cap deflector. There is a nosecap of iron and two iron ramrod thimbles retain the ramrod (front may be a replacement, it is certainly at least resoldered). The triggerguard features a nicer grip flourish and a single forward-curving spur. The crescent butt is of iron as-is the toeplate, they are unadorned. The rifle is equipped with double set triggers which are crisp and wonderfully tuned. The stock rates very good to very good plus with original varnish and the overall light dings and handling marks one would expect from the years. There is some lovely figure in the butt and there is a repaired crack through the wrist which is very well camouflaged and very nicely done. Adolph Koppikus from Lexington Kentucky was active in Sacramento from 1849-1874. A quality-made, if somewhat spartan, California rifle. (37147-54) {ANTIQUE} [Terry Buffum Collection]

Colt Woodsman Semi-Auto Pistol With Original Box

Lot # 306 (Sale Order: 306 of 1029)

serial #95957, 22 LR, 4" barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces retain 98 to very near 99% original blue showing only some very minor high edge wear, the sparsely scattered light scratch here there with numerous tiny dings along the rear radius of sliding frame and along the top radius of the slide (they are pretty much confined to this area). The checkered walnut grips rate about excellent and two-tone magazine is included marked "Colt woodsman/cal. 22 LR", showing some light surface rust at the top right edge. This example has the grooved high-speed mainspring housing. Included with the gun is its original purple-tone, hinged top box which is in poor condition but may well be able to be resurrected by someone who knew what they were doing, it is numbered to the gun on the bottom and on the inside lid in antique ink pen. Also included with the arm is the "Colt woodsman automatic pistols" instruction sheet and "shooting suggestions" pamphlet, each rating fair-good with some foxing and oil staining. Really a very nice woodsman over all in a somewhat tender box. (37793-12) {C&R}

Pennsylvania Percussion Fullstock Sporting Rifle

Lot # 307 (Sale Order: 307 of 1029)

About 58 cal. smoothbore, 42 1/2" octagon barrel with an oxidized bore. The barrel is an overall very pleasing dark plum-brown patina with some sparse oxidation staining and a good deal of pitting in the flash area around the nipple bolster. It is sighted with a simple iron blade front sight and scant flat-topped v-notch rear. The conversion to percussion is by drum and nipple method and the lock and its attendant parts are a similar dark brown and gray patina with some light pitting. The arm has brass hardware in the form of a nosecap, dual ramrod thimbles, tailpipe, faceted dovetailed triggerguard with single forward-curving spur and a faceted buttplate with simple toeplate. The smooth cherry stock rates very good plus showing an old very light cleaning many years ago, with remnants of minor dings and handling marks from the years and a couple minor drying cracks. There is a rear-release daisy head patchbox which is unadorned, full-length combline inlay, arrowhead inlays along the toeline and left and right of forearm ahead of stock flats, a rather large simple sideplate, a double arrowhead inlay in the forestock, dual hook-shaped inlays adjacent to the tang, star, moon and cheekpiece inlays on the left of butt and a simple oval brass inlay atop the wrist. The gun is single trigger equipped and the lock is mechanically functional although the half-cock rest is worn. What is likely the original, or perhaps at least an antique replacement, ramrod is included. An interesting percussion-converted long rifle over all very much in the Allentown or Lehigh school of work, with its curving butt and scant combline. (37631-19) {ANTIQUE}

Remington Model 1895 Over Under Deringer in Book Casing

Lot # 309 (Sale Order: 309 of 1029)

serial #595, .41 RF, 3" barrels with about fair bores. The metal surfaces retain about 98% original bright nickel, showing only some light high edge wear and some muzzle flaking. The trigger and hammer show some generous traces of original pale fire temper blue while the opening lever and extractor have toned primarily to a dull gray patina. The checkered hard rubber grips rate very good to perhaps very good plus, the left grip showing a bit more wear and flattening of the points; the grip screw shows some very nice pale fire temper blue. The Deringer comes cased in a cardboard, leather and fabric covered "book" casing. The "covers" are covered in a burgundy fabric with the corners and spine reinforced in a black kidskin leather. "Twin Barrel Justice" and "Remington" are embossed in gold on the spine. The interior has a russet-toned lining which will fit the Deringer and six rounds of ammunition. The case is key-lockable and the key is included. The mechanism seems to work properly on the Deringer and the hinges are un-cracked, there is however very light vertical play barrel-to-frame. Overall a really neat little casing and a very respectable Remington Type II Deringer. (37863-10) {C&R}

Merkel Pre-War Model 301E Over Under Shotgun

Lot # 310 (Sale Order: 310 of 1029)

serial # 14775, 12 ga., 32" ventilated rib B_hler Spezial steel barrels choked a tight modified and a tight full with bright excellent bores which show remnants of some very light oxidation in the areas of ahead of the forcing cones which may have left some extremely light pinprick pitting. The barrels retain about 95%-97% original blue, the loss is due to even fading to a dark plum with scattered light oxidation here and there, the bottom barrel with a number of light handling marks and scratches on its underside. The frame retains roughly 92-95% original color case-hardening, muting on the belly of the frame, and is extensively engraved in rose and scroll with banknote filigree bordering, the top lever retaining nearly all its original blue. The arm features protruding, rather than dial, cocking indicators, gold plated internals, externals including the articulated trigger and extractors as well. The left extractor is marked "2 3/4" on its face and the arm was equipped with ivory target beads, the center bead now missing. The three-piece forend rates very good plus to perhaps near excellent with only light handling marks from the years, the horn insert still intact at the tip of the forend; the forend latch is oxidized. Sadly the buttstock has been broken completely in half at some point and will need to be replaced. There is a German silver oval monogram plate along the toeline engraved "CKR" for Charles Kellogg Rockwell USMA Class of 1906; at West Point he was awarded the Army Athletic Trophy. He served his country in the First World War, had a love of horses, riding and jumping and enjoyed hunting very much. It was said of him by a former classmate in his eulogy "He was an ardent hunter always. No one could match him with the shotgun in the hunting preserves of South Carolina when the birds were flying and the setters were pointing". Lockup is tight and the gun seems to function well mechanically. Right side of barrel features the Merkel Brothers name, left side the AF Stoeger Inc. New York address with "Sole American Agent". A lovely prewar 301 ejectorgun overall certainly worthy of the restoration. (37796-4) {C&R}

Lot # 320 (Sale Order: 320 of 1029)

This beautiful three screw revolver is serial numbered outside the range of the "S" series N-frame revolvers and is not marked on the frame with the model number. The cocking knob is in excellent condition with cavity mold number 28. This three-hole pistol has no breech marking, the floor plate is present and the gun remains fully functional. This Liberator would be a great addition to any martial collection. (86229-753) {C&R} [Elliott Riggs Collection]
