Colt 1851 Percussion Navy Model Revolver

Lot # 651 (Sale Order: 651 of 703)

Description Update (11/7/17): A few spots of light pitting right of frame

serial #38614, .36 caliber, 7 1/2" octagon barrel with a beautiful bright minty bore. This revolver shows very little finish but it is in truly wonderful condition showing hardly any use. This is a middle third model with loading lever screws entering from the left side and with early style "V" shaped loading groove in barrel lug. The gun shows a single "V/(crown)" British proof on the barrel and again once on the cylinder and has all matching numbers including the wedge. The steel surfaces of revolver show an even and very smooth gray patina with all markings remaining crisp and legible. The cylinder scene remains very strong and crisp and the nipples and nipple recesses all remain smooth and free of pitting and oxidation while five of the cylinder safety pins show damage. The face of the recoil shield and face of the hammer are also free of any pitting or oxidation. The brass gripstraps retain about 65% original silverplated finish with most loss on the front strap. The one-piece walnut grip rates excellent with 95% original varnish remaining and with some handling marks. This is an interesting Navy that is very tight and may be unfired. (18315-218LS5-25) {ANTIQUE} [Lewis T. Steadman Collection]

U.S. Colt Model 1851 Navy Revolver

Lot # 652 (Sale Order: 652 of 703)

serial #66325, .36 caliber, 7 1/2" octagon barrel with a dark bore. This revolver is marked "COLT'S / PATENT / U.S." on the left side of the frame and shows subinspector's initials on various parts including "V" and "G" on left side of triggerguard, "C" on top of backstrap and again on cylinder. The revolver has all matching numbers on the frame, barrel, triggerguard, backstrap, cylinder, arbor, wedge and loading lever. The steel surfaces of revolver show a deep, rich, untouched patina with all markings remaining clear and legible. The barrel shows old scattered impact marks here and there and the cylinder shows some tool marks around its periphery with some of its original cylinder scene showing beneath the marks. The cylinder also shows some softening of the edges around the nipple recesses from being fired so many times. The brass gripstraps bear a deep rich patina, again untouched and showing 150 years of patina. The one-piece walnut grip rates very good plus with a really nice surface, legible cartouche left, visible cartouche right and one chip from the right side toe. The wedge screw is a modern replacement that could be made to look better with limited effort. This revolver was made in early 1857 and most certainly saw Civil War service. A very honest 1851 Martial Navy that just has a fabulous untouched surface. (18527-65) {ANTIQUE}

Interesting Early M91 Mosin Nagant Bolt Action Rifle by Remington

Lot # 662 (Sale Order: 662 of 703)

serial #22, 7.62x54 Russian, 31" barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces of this 1916-dated rifle retain 95-97% original blue with some oxidation and silvering on buttplate, a few scattered spots of fading and light freckling. The nicely figured walnut stock rates excellent with some added varnish, a couple spots of flaking, a few scattered dings and handling marks. The parts are unserialized but they are marked with the correct Remington "R" marking and the stock lacks any Russian or American acceptance stamps. With the nicely figured wood, low serial number, lack of military acceptance stamps and serialized parts it is probable that this gun was a trial or presentation piece. An interesting gun that will make a great addition to any military collection. (208452-2) {C&R}

Hopkins & Allen Xl No. 8 Army Revolver

Lot # 671 (Sale Order: 671 of 703)

serial #112, 44-40, 7" barrel with an about good bore showing pitting, oxidation and strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this revolver retain about 62% original nickel with the majority of loss on the cylinder, right side of the frame and barrel. The triggerguard, cylinder and hammer are a dark oxidized gray overall and the areas of flaked nickel on the frame and barrel have mostly toned to a similar freckled gray. The Hopkins & Allen address and patent markings are almost totally faded but the model marking remains clear. The checkered hard rubber grips are un-numbered and remain in about good overall condition with some discoloration, overall smoothing of the points, an "A" scratched into the tops of both grips and the right grip is slightly dented and warped. There is a small crack in the frame behind the hammer and the ejector rod is a modern replacement. All visible serial numbers appear to match including the cylinder, loading gate and ejector rod housing and the lanyard ring is intact.
