British Flintlock Holster Pistol by Ketland

Lot # 1425 (Sale Order: 426 of 901)

Description Update (11/7/17): Withdrawn

.55 caliber, 9" round iron barrel. The lockplate is marked "W. / KETLAND / & CO." and the top of the barrel is marked simply "LONDON". The pistol features a gooseneck cock and unbridled frizzen. The barrel and lock show a deep brown patina which appears completely undisturbed over the years. The stock is of walnut and features brass furniture which includes an "S"-shaped sideplate, triggerguard, smooth buttcap and ramrod ferrules. The condition of the stock is very good with lots of original finish remaining with a brass oval monogram plate on top of grip. A good honest British holster pistol. (18507-7) {ANTIQUE}

U.S. M1 Garand Rifle by Springfield Armory

Lot # 1429 (Sale Order: 430 of 901)

serial #4289109, 30-06, 24" 6-53 dated Springfield barrel with a very good plus bore that shows some light frosting in the grooves. The metal surfaces retain 97% arsenal parkerized finish with some light silvering on the exposed edges, a few parkerized over pinprick pits on the receiver and some oxidation staining on the floorplate. The elevation knob appears to be a later USGI replacement, the safety appears to be marked simply "SA" but all the other marked parts appear to be correct post-war Springfield manufacture. There are two neatly filled holes on the left side of the receiver and there are areas which display a different hue indicating that the receiver was likely professionally respliced at some point. A GI canvas sling is included. A very good example of a post war Springfield Garand. (208495-1) {C&R}

Smith & Wesson Model No. 3 American Single Action Revolver

Lot # 1430 (Sale Order: 431 of 901)

serial #17246, 44 S&W American, 8" barrel with a fair bore that shows pitting throughout much of its length but visible rifling. The metal surfaces of this second model American revolver retain 90-93% reapplied nickel over a heavily polished finish with some pitting below the new finish, scattered flaking, light scratches, toning to brown and freckling. The smooth walnut grips are matching to the frame and rate very good with a few dings and scattered handling marks. The barrel and the cylinder appear to match each other by assembly number but the assembly number on the grip frame is indiscernible. While the revolver times well, the lockup is poor and will require mechanical attention to fix. The firing pin is broken, the top latch is a replacement and the cylinder retention tab is broken. A good candidate for restoration. (208315-159LTS360) {ANTIQUE} [Lewis T. Steadman Collection]

Interesting Mosin Nagant M91 Bolt Action Rifle by New England Westinghouse

Lot # 1436 (Sale Order: 437 of 901)

serial #49765, 7.62x54 Russian, 31" barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces retain 90% original blue with some light freckling on the receiver and scattered fading on the exposed edges. The American walnut stock rates very good plus retaining much of its armory oil finish with a small chip at the right rear edge of the handguard, a few light dings and handling marks. The barrel shank markings are the early "Curved logo" type, aside from the barrel shank there are no other serialized parts and the stock lacks American or Russian acceptance stamps. It is possible that this gun was a trials gun of some sort or perhaps a "Lunchbox special". A couple of the screws exhibit light slot damage and a canvas sling is included. An interesting gun that may benefit from further research. (208426-4) {C&R}
