French M1854 Lefaucheux Single Action Pinfire Revolver

Lot # 1614 (Sale Order: 615 of 901)

serial #30982, 12mm Pinfire, 6 1/4" barrel with a good bore showing moderate pitting and strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this revolver retain a mix of original and reapplied blue with streaks of original blue along the barrel, cylinder and triggerguard, mostly toning to dull gray with scattered freckling and pinprick pitting. The gripstraps and hammer are toned mostly to gray with scattered freckling and areas of the frame above the triggerguard show what appears to be some older reapplied blue. The smooth walnut grips remain in very good plus condition with most of the finish worn and just a few small dings and handling marks. All of the numbered parts, including the grips, appear to be matching by assembly number 73. The right side of the revolver bears Lefaucheux's "(Revolver)/LF" logo and the left side shows a rather faint "Lefaucheux Paris" stamp. The front sight is missing and the loading gate is a rather crude modern replacement that does not latch closed but the lanyard ring and ejector rod are still present. This revolver's serial number puts it in the range consistent with United States purchase during the Civil War and everything remains fully functional, although the hammer operates a little stiffly and lockup is rather loose. A good overall example that may have seen use during the American Civil War. (137949-56) {ANTIQUE}

Savage Model 1899-A Lever Action Rifle

Lot # 1620 (Sale Order: 621 of 901)

Description Update (11/7/17): Further cracks left and right of upper tang

serial #92.218, 32-40, 26" barrel with a very good plus bore showing some very light pitting scattered throughout. The metal surfaces of this 1909-made rifle retain about 92% original blue on the barrel with some minor freckling, small areas of thinning throughout its length and some lightly cleaned areas toned to smoky gray and a few small dings at the muzzle. The receiver appears to be a mix of original and older reapplied blue retaining about 65-68% coverage with some thinning to smoky gray, light cleaning predominantly on the left side and high edge wear and pinprick pitting throughout. The lever retains traces of original case colors but has mostly toned to a brownish gray with scattered freckling and oxidation staining. The bolt shows some minor fading and hazing to gray and the crescent buttplate is a brownish gray with some staining and pinprick pitting. The straight grip walnut buttstock and schnabel-tipped forend remain in good overall condition as lightly refinished except for a prominent 2 1/2" flexing crack turning to a chip at the toe. No doubt this rifle was dropped on its toe as the buttplate is also bent inwards. The furniture shows some further minor dings and handling marks throughout. The factory rear sight is intact along with a Marble's gold bead front sight. A good overall example that would benefit from a professional stock repair. (138476-70) {C&R}
