German Buchsflinte Combination Gun by Baumgarten

Lot # 1600 (Sale Order: 601 of 837)

serial #24859, 12 ga. x 8x72R, 27 1/2" Flusstahl barrels, the shotgun choked a light full, both with bright very good to perhaps very good plus bores, the left tube showing a number of dings and dents near the muzzle end. The barrels retain about 90% original dark gray-blue, the loss is due primarily to even fading and light muzzle and carry point wear, also with some minor oxidation or light handling marks here and there. The frame is unadorned with a nice matted top section and retains perhaps 15% original color case-hardening, primarily adjacent to the top lever, the balance a silvery smoky case-hardened gray patina, the long tang triggerguard is similar as well. The checkered round knob European walnut buttstock rates about very good with overall light dings and handling marks from the years, the splinter forend is similar showing perhaps a bit more wear. The stock features a rounded left side cheekpiece and the length of pull to the bone basketweave buttplate is 13 5/8". The arm features cocking indicators non-automatic safety and double triggers with the front being a single set. The arm is sighted with a simple scant bead front sight, and two leaf rear, one standing one folding, and the rib has been fitted with dual claw bases with see-through rings which mount a Helios 4 power telescopic sight with cloudy optics and broken post and crosshair reticle. The gun locks up tightly, is on-face and seems to operate well mechanically. A nice vintage combination German combination gun overall, proved in 1913. (38628-2) {C&R}
