Interesting German P.08 Luger Pistol by DWM with Police Unit Markings

Lot # 1050 (Sale Order: 51 of 837)

serial #6496, 9mm, 4" barrel with a bright near excellent bore showing just a little frosting. This pistol is a very interesting example of a police rework Luger built from a first issue altered Navy gun complete with the re-designed safety lever pivoting down to reveal the "GESICHERT" and the old safety word neatly milled out. The metal surfaces retain about 94% arsenal blue showing high edge wear, freckling on the gripstraps, light scattered scratches and a few spots of pinprick pitting here and there. The small parts retain strong straw color in the more protected areas with overall silvering, light freckling and a couple tiny pinprick pits. The sear spring, magazine release spring, breechblock pin and rear toggle pin retain very nice deep fire blue. The checkered walnut grips are un-numbered although the left panel has a very small Imperial-era proof mark on its interior. They remain in very good to near excellent condition with some areas of lightly compressed points, light chipping scattered about and minor handling marks. The chamber is blank, toggle is marked with a crisp DWM logo and any original German Navy stamps have been removed probably during refurbishment and rework into a police pistol. The barrel is an un-numbered police replacement with "PTV / (Eagle)" on the right side, "(Eagle) / 33" and over-stamped "(Eagle) / 46" on the left and a "(Sunburst) / D" at top rear of the toggle. Many of the serialized parts were no doubt replaced and re-stamped during overhaul and a few are un-numbered altogether including the grooved firing pin, hold open and safety lever. The remaining serialized parts are all matching and the frontstrap is stamped in large font "8.ORTSPOLIZEI.ALFELD." (town of Alfeld local police). The sear safety is present and the pistol includes one bright-bodied aluminum base magazine marked on the base "S / 1 / 7877 / 1" with a small over-stamped eagle. This firearm is really a fascinating example and a testament to the long and faithful service of the Luger pistol. (138050-72) {C&R}

Smith & Wesson Model 547 Military & Police Revolver

Lot # 1057 (Sale Order: 58 of 837)

serial #ABN6531, 9mm, 3" heavy barrel with an excellent bore. This gun remains in wonderful condition. This early to mid-1980's made revolver retains about 99% original blue with a very light turn ring on the cylinder and a few minor handling marks. The smooth combat trigger and semi-bobbed flat faced factory hammer retain beautiful case-hardened colors. The checkered walnut round butt factory target grips with speed loader cut out and silver S&W medallions rate excellent. This model had a few unique features to facilitate the use of the rimless 9mm. The extractor had spring-loaded fingers to catch the rim and facilitate extraction and ejection without the use of clips, there was a frame-mounted cartridge retainer above the frame mounted firing pin to maintain the headspace of the cartridge during firing and the previously described hammer. This gun includes the original hinged factory box that is correctly end labeled and numbered to the gun, a single HKS 547 speedloader, manual and paperwork. This gun appears to have seen little if any use and the limited production (about 6,486) of the model makes it desirable for the serious collector. (88578-35) {MODERN}

Colt Model 1851 Navy Revolver with Columbus Firearms Manufacturing-Marked Barrel

Lot # 1059 (Sale Order: 60 of 837)

serial #62552, .36 cal, 7 1/2" barrel within oxidized, now smooth, bore. The metal surfaces on this interesting revolver have certainly seen their share of use and the elements. The iron parts all exhibit varying degrees of oxidation, light, moderate, and in some cases heavy, pitting. The last 4" of the barrel is smoother in character and shows a number of small dings along its right edge; its bottom lug has worn through to the line-up pin holes. The frame, triggerguard, butt and indeed even the wedge are all matching numbered one-to-another. Close inspection of the top flat of the barrel and the radius of the cylinder both show a roll marking which appears to be from the period of use "Columbus Fire Arms Manuf Co/Columbus GA" on the barrel flat, the marking is mostly obscured by pitting but much of it can be read and is true to known examples. The cylinder as well shows remnants of a Columbus Firearms Manuf Co marking, again much of it cannot be discerned due to oxidation and pitting. The cylinder is currently rusted to the arbor and the loading lever will not move and there appears to be no hand or hand spring in place; a number of screws show some slot damage. The grip frame is a dull tarnished goldenrod patina and is slightly mis-shapen in spots. The one piece walnut grip rates about good showing some shrinkage, raised grain from exposure to the elements and a moderate chip missing from its right side. Looking at known examples of this revolver we initially see that the right side loading cut at the barrel lug is smaller than normally seen and the barrel lug contour seems sharper and not as graceful as some noted examples. Overall an interesting Colt revolver, clearly with replaced barrel and cylinder during the period of use, further research or authentication may prove or disprove the component parts on this arm as a genuine Columbus firearms articles. (38604-3) {ANTIQUE}
