Smith & Wesson 1st Model .44 Hand Ejector Revolver

Lot # 632 (Sale Order: 632 of 1114)

serial #10679, 44 Special, 6 1/2" barrel with a near excellent bore exhibiting a few minor pits and oxidation stains. The metal surfaces of this "New Century Triple Lock" revolver have about 95% later applied non-factory nickel plate showing scattered light oxidation stains, flaking finish, fine scratches and a moderate turn ring on the cylinder. There were no factory rework marks found on the gun and markings indicate it started life as a blued gun. The standard hammer and trigger are also nickel plated with light operational wear and flaking. The diamond checkered walnut factory grips with gold S&W medallions rate about fair to good with moderate diamond point wear, dents, dings, small chips on the butt of the left panel and a lightly repaired check running from the top of the right panel to the butt. The crack is most visible on the back side of the panel but portions can be seen on the butt and top above the medallion. All the appropriate parts including the grips are correctly numbered to the gun but the cylinder and extractor are replacements. The extractor star is numbered "9560" and the cylinder was over stamped with the current serial number. Timing and lock up are good and it should make a decent shooter or project gun. (88737-139) {MODERN} [Dr. Louis C. March Jr. Collection]

Colt Single Action Army Revolver

Lot # 636 (Sale Order: 636 of 1114)

serial #5448NF, 45 Colt, 7 1/2" barrel with an excellent bore. This 1965 made revolver retains about 75-80% original blue and case-hardened colors with scattered high edge wear, limited oxidation blemishes, scratches, turn ring and other handling marks. The revolver has a ramp front sight and factory black blade Accro rear sight. The base pin has been replaced with a Peacemaker Specialist or similar with oversized head and lock screw. The front sight has a very small notch filed into the base of the blade but does not affect the sight picture. U.S. Model 1917 Revolver by Colt

Lot # 640 (Sale Order: 640 of 1114)

serial #152168, 45 ACP / AR, 5 1/2" barrel with an excellent bore. This early Model 1917 has a rack number of "4405" and features bored through chambers. The metal surfaces retain about 99% later applied non-factory economy type blue finish with a few light handling marks, a stray oxidation blemish and a faint turn ring on the cylinder. There are some light impact marks on the sideplate plus a few other areas and some old pitting can be seen under the new finish. The smooth walnut factory grips rate about very good plus as lightly refurbished but the threaded escutcheon is loose and needs attention plus the frame is proud of the wood along most of the edges. The gun still times and locks up well but the lanyard loop has broken off and the remains of it are provided. The inspector mark on the frame is fairly crisp but the other markings are slightly softened. The first 10,000 or so Model 1917 revolvers made by Colt used bored through chambers but the military requested a headspace shoulder so they could be fired without the half-moon clip in an emergency (they would not eject and had to be plucked from the chamber one at a time). This gun should make a good shooter but will require the use of clips with 45 ACP ammunition or 45 Auto Rim. (88750-10) {C&R}

U.S. Model 1917 Revolver by Colt

Lot # 641 (Sale Order: 641 of 1114)

serial #171773, 45 ACP / AR, 5 1/2" barrel with excellent bore. This old war horse has been arsenal reworked and marked by Augusta Arsenal and bears U.S. Army rack number "20114". The metal surfaces have about 80% arsenal grade Parkerized finish that has faded to a light gray with the grip frame worn to a mix of pewter and brown, moderate edge wear, freckling and various handling marks. The smooth factory walnut grips are numbered to another gun and rate about very good as lightly refurbished showing an arsenal quality repair to a chip on the toe of the left panel in addition to scattered handling marks. The sideplate is a replacement numbered to another gun but everything appears to function mechanically. The crane lock screw has been replaced with a standard screw which seems to retain the crane lock, the screw heads have light slot damage and the lanyard loop is present. There is a clear "AA" stamp on the left frame above the triggerguard and Colonel Gilbert H. Stewart's inspection mark is fairly crisp. The gun includes a single full moon clip. This is another variation of the timeless 1917 revolver for the military collector. (88807-2) {C&R}
serial #171773, 45 ACP / AR, 5 1/2" barrel with excellent bore. This old war horse has been arsenal reworked and marked by Augusta Arsenal and bears U.S. Army rack number...more "20114". The metal surfaces have about 80% arsenal grade Parkerized finish that has faded to a light gray with the grip frame worn to a mix of pewter and brown, moderate edge wear, freckling and various handling marks. The smooth factory walnut grips are numbered to another gun and rate about very good as lightly refurbished showing an arsenal quality repair to a chip on the toe of the left panel in addition to scattered handling marks. The sideplate is a replacement numbered to another gun but everything appears to function mechanically. The crane lock screw has been replaced with a standard screw which seems to retain the crane lock, the screw heads have light slot damage and the lanyard loop is present. There is a clear "AA" stamp on the left frame above the triggerguard and Colonel Gilbert H. Stewart's inspection mark is fairly crisp. The gun includes a single full moon clip. This is another variation of the timeless 1917 revolver for the military collector. (88807-2) {C&R}
