French Mas-36/51 Bolt Action Rifle by St. Etienne

Lot # 851 (Sale Order: 851 of 1062)      

serial #F32192, 7.5 French, 24 1/2" barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces retain 98% of a gray arsenal parkerized finish with a small ding in front of floorplate and scattered light silvering. The beech stock rates excellent displaying a few handling marks. The right side of the receiver has a boxed "P66" arsenal rebuild stamp, the bolt is numbered matching but all other parts appear unnumbered as is typical for arsenal refurbished guns. There is a Century Arms import marking on the right side of the receiver. An original black rubber buttpad dated 1951 and an original tan sling that shows scattered white staining are included. An excellent example of these grenade launching MAS-36 rifles. (208879-5) {C&R}

serial #F17618, 22 LR, 24" barrel with an excellent bore. The metal surfaces retain 93% of a gray arsenal parkerized finish with light silvering along the barreled action. The beech stock rates very good plus with a tiny chip at toe and a few handling marks. The bolt is electropenciled matching on the underside of the body, the buttplate is marked "MAS", the receiver has the Mauser Banner logo under the words "Fab. MAS". There is a small Navy Arms import marking on the underside of the barrel. A very fine example of a Mauser rimfire rifle made under French occupation. (208873-719) {C&R}

Swiss K31 Bolt Action Rifle

serial #832132, 7.5x55 Swiss, 26" barrel with a very good plus bore that shows some minor frosting. The metal surfaces of this 1944-production rifle retain 80% arsenal blue with most of the loss due to fading to gray on the receiver, scattered silvering and fading to gray on the exposed edges. The beech stock rates very good with a partially faded Swiss cross cartouche, the beginnings of a small crack at upper tang, scattered dings and handling marks. There appears to be a refurbishment marking on the upper tang, all visible serial numbers are matching and there is a Century Arms import marking on the barrel. serial #6666, 6.5x55 Swedish, 29" armory threaded barrel with a good bore that shows scattered oxidation but strong rifling. The metal surfaces of this 1899-dated rifle retain 93% arsenal refurbished blue with some flaking to brown along the exposed edges and a few minor dings on the bands. The beech stock rates very good with two strong Swedish crown proofs, a small check on the wrist, an armorer repair at heel, some scars from band removal near rear band, a few dings and handling marks. The cleaning rod is mismatched but all other visible parts are matching with some being of Husqvarna manufacture. The stock disc has a triangle over both "1" and "3" for bore condition and a muzzle cap is included. A solid early Swedish Mauser rifle. (208877-21) {C&R}

This is a German M42 Stahlhelm helmet with a gray feldgrau paint. The exterior paint shows some scattered light flaking and dirt staining. The interior has the same gray ...morefeldgrau paint with some flaking spots giving way to oxidation, scuffs, dirt staining and light scratches. The rear of the helmet is marked "2243" and the left side "ET64" indicating Eisenhuttenwerk manufacture. The M31 liner shows a few tears, some crazing and flaking. The chinstrap is marked "JOSTO/1941/PRAG" it shows some crazing and crackling. The left side of the helmet has a Luftwaffe decal that has a couple large areas that have flaked away, some smaller flaking spots and oxidation near the decal. This is a German M42 Stahlhelm helmet with a gray feldgrau paint. The exterior paint is turning to a gray patina with oxidation throughout, scattered flaking and scuffing...more. The interior has the same gray feldgrau paint with scattered flaking, oxidation and scuffing. The rear of the helmet is marked "2271" and the left side is marked "ET64" indicating Eisenhuttenwerk manufacture. The police style liner shows some crazing and dirt staining. There is a maker's marking that is illegible on the rear of the liner with a date of 1939 and a name that appears to read "Charles" penciled at the rear. The chinstrap shows overall crazing and some dirt staining. The left side of the helmet has a Luftwaffe decal that shows scattered light flaking and oxidation. A solid Luftwaffe helmet overall. The front of the helmet has a silver painted Nazi eagle over a swastika whose meaning is unknown and it is likely that this marking is later applied and the rear rivet is missing. This is a Czech M32 helmet with a white paint that was likely added by the Germans. The paint has mostly flaked off around the top giving way to a green base paint beneat...moreh, there is further scattered flaking spots and some oxidation. The interior has the base green paint with scattered light oxidation staining, dirt staining and some scuffing. The liner has one cushion that has torn with the interior coming loose. The liner shows overall flaking, crazing and dust staining. The chinstrap shows flaking, crackling and crazing. There is what appears to be the remnants of a black painted number "5" on the front of the helmet, which may possibly be Volkssturm. A neat helmet that may benefit from further research. The metal surfaces of this pre-war Heavy Frame retain about 85-90% original blue with most of the loss to oxidized pinprick pitting on the left side of the barrel in addition to scattered light high edge wear, limited oxidation blemishes and a turn ring on the cylinder. The standard trigger and hammer retain beautiful case-hardened colors. The un-numbered diamond checkered walnut factory target extension grips rate good plus with scattered light handling marks. The gun features a Call front sight with the brass bead broken off and black blade factory adjustable rear sight. The rear sight has a pair of very small shallow dimples drilled into the slider straddling both sides of the notch probably an early version of the "three dot" sight picture. Timing and lock up are excellent and all appropriate parts are correctly numbered to the gun. This gun would be great for the upstart collector. (88873-517) {C&R}

The pistol features a Patridge front sight, black blade adjustable bridge rear sight, barrel weight and stippled grip frame. The stainless steel surfaces rate about good to very good with scattered light edge wear, scratches, tiny dings and a turn ring on the cylinder. The smooth combat trigger and service hammer retain full hard chrome finish with minor operation and handling wear. The replacement checkered rubber Pachmayr Presentation grips rate about the same as the gun with scattered light handling wear and marks. This service style revolver features a stainless steel Baughman ramp front sight and fixed rear sight. The Standard Catalogue of Smith & Wesson by Supica and Nahas indicate 500 units were shipped on June 18, 1982 with "NYSP" stamped below the window on the frame and were "M" stamped on the frame below the crane indicating a yoke (crane) modification. The gun includes a factory box that is not end-labeled. This gun has seen some honest use protecting the Empire State and is sure to pique the interest of the police firearms collector. This 1979-made revolver retains about 97% original blue finish with a light turn ring on the cylinder and a small area of oxidation on the left side of the muzzle. The checkered walnut factory target grips with gold Rampant Colt medallions rate excellent. The revolver features a black serrated ramp front sight and Colt Accro rear sight. The revolver includes a Colt woodgrain factory box with Styrofoam insert that is missing both end flaps and is thus unlabeled. It also includes the manual, hang tag and paperwork.
