German P.08 Code 42 Pistol by Mauser

Lot # 51 (Sale Order: 51 of 1059)

serial #1091d, 9mm, 4" barrel with a bright very good plus bore showing some light frosting and strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this 1940-dated pistol retain about 90% original blue with most of the loss due to some small patches of light pinprick pitting along the barrel, sideplate and high edges of the frame, along with some high edge wear and a few areas of minor thinning. All of the markings are crisp and clear and the pistol is appropriately marked with eagle proofs and "(Eagle) / 655" Waffenamts. The checkered walnut grips are stamp-numbered to the gun and also marked with tiny "(Eagle) / 655" Waffenamts on their interiors and remain in very good plus condition showing some scattered minor staining and areas of lightly compressed points. The takedown lever spring has broken but this would likely be an easy fix and all of the serialized parts are matching including the grooved firing pin. The pistol includes one blue-bodied aluminum base magazine that is also numbered to the gun with a "+". A fine example of an early war Luger pistol, even more desirable with its matching magazine. (139214-36) {C&R} (1500/2000)

German P.08 Luger S/42 Pistol by Mauser

Lot # 52 (Sale Order: 52 of 1059)

serial #4300o, 9mm, 4" barrel with a mostly bright very good plus bore showing some light frosting and strong rifling throughout. The metal surfaces of this 1939-dated pistol retain about 90% original blue with the gripstraps thinning to gray patina, high edge and holster wear and areas toning to a pleasant plum patina under bright light. The checkered walnut grips are stamp-numbered to the gun and remain in very good plus condition showing just a few lightly chipped and compressed points. All of the markings remain crisp and clear, the pistol is stamped with the appropriate droop wing eagle firing proofs and "(Eagle) / 83" and "(Eagle) / 63" Waffenamts and all of the serialized parts are matching including the grooved firing pin. Included is a blue-bodied black synthetic base Haenel fxo-coded magazine with "(Eagle) / 37" Waffenamt that remains in near excellent condition. This is a very nice example of a late S/42 code pistol, this Mauser code was only used for a couple of months in the beginning of 1939 before transitioning to just "42" and the proofs were changed to Nazi eagles. Early German P.38 Semi-Auto Pistol by Mauser Oberndorf

Lot # 53 (Sale Order: 53 of 1059)

serial #1319a, 9mm, 5" barrel with a bright near excellent bore. This is a rather scarce and very nice early byf 42-coded Mauser pistol retaining about 94% original blue showing some faint thinning to gray patina along the frontstrap and sides of the slide along with some high edge wear. The grooved dark brown phenolic resin grips remain in excellent condition showing almost no wear, perhaps just the faintest handling mark or two. The grips are maker-coded "Z3 / 38", all of the markings remain crisp and clear, all of the serialized parts are matching and stamped with the appropriate "(Eagle) / 135" Waffenamts. The action seems to function well mechanically and one "P.38"-marked magazine with "(Eagle) / 359" Waffenamt is included. Early Mauser P.38s were made in very limited numbers and this one remains in particularly fine condition. (139214-39) {C&R}

Interesting I-Suffix DWM Model 1906 Swiss Commercial Luger Pistol

Lot # 54 (Sale Order: 54 of 1059)

serial #2349i, 30 Luger, 3 7/8'' barrel with a mostly bright very good plus bore showing some light frosting. This pistol is built on a 1906 frame but features the short 3 7/8'' barrel characteristic of the 1920 commercial models. The toggle is DWM-marked and the chamber bears a Swiss cross in starburst. The metal surfaces retain about 85-90% arsenal blue showing high edge wear, scattered freckling and some patches of light pitting scattered about. The commercial ''(Crown) / N'' proofs are rather soft and the pistol appears to have been arsenal-reworked prior to commercial sale. The small parts retain some faint straw color toning to silvery-gray patina and showing some light pitting on the trigger and takedown lever. The grip screws show some faint fire blue while the color on the sear spring and magazine release spring is vibrant. The un-numbered checkered walnut grips remain in very good plus condition showing some lightly chipped points, light dings and handling marks. The barrel is matching the frame with the full serial number and suffix, most of the serialized parts have been re-numbered to match, the receiver and un-grooved firing pin are un-numbered, the breechblock and hold open are mismatched. There is a small ''GERMANY'' import mark on the left side rear of the frame and one un-marked bright-bodied metal insert wood base Swiss magazine is included. A very good example overall that represents a rather unusual commercial variant for the Luger collector. (139014-3) {C&R}

Lovely Pair of Belgian Over Under Holster Pistols by Falisse & Trapmann

Lot # 56 (Sale Order: 56 of 1059)

.72 cal., 7 1/2'' round rifled barrels with bright very good plus bores which show very strong rifling and with some scattered very light pitting or oxidation. The barrels on both pistols exhibit a very fine pewter gray and plum brown damascus twist their entire length, still brilliant, each showing a couple very light spots of some oxidation staining. They are marked on their top surface ''Falisse & Trapmann a Liège'', inlaid in gold, each features a simple square brass front sight and each has a steel ramrod mounted along the right side barrel ribs, each retaining good fire blue. The heavy breeches, tangs, back action lockplates and hammers are all a mottled smoky gray case-hardened patina and show some lovely open rococo scroll with floral decoration on the hammers. Both long tang triggerguards retain some strong original blue, with identical engraving as lockplates, and there are very nice blued trapdoor buttcaps with lanyard rings attached. The French walnut stocks both rate very fine with the expected light handling dings but with strong original varnish and very fine squarish flat-top checkering covering the grasping area of the butts. The locks are crisp and mechanically functional and the guns remain in a lovely state of condition overall. They are very interesting in that there are internal rods or tubes at the breech end of each, which appear to come forward into the combustion area where the powder sits, for about 3/4'', perhaps some interesting invention of F&T that sets the powder charge off from the center rather than from the rear. Further research may prove interesting, these are very lovely large Belgian percussion pistols overall. (39100-1030) {ANTIQUE} [Richard ''Stretch'' Kennedy Collection]

Lot # 57 (Sale Order: 57 of 1059)

.50 cal, 3 3/4" barrel with a partially bright very good plus straight-rifled bore showing some very light pitting and strong rifling. The metal surfaces of this larger-size pistol have mostly toned to a dark gray patina showing evidence of some older reapplied blue with some scattered cleaned old pitting. The breech, tang and lockplate are embellished with light foliate scrollwork that remains entirely visible and the tang is marked with a softened "F. H. CLARK & Co. / MEMPHIS". The iron triggerguard is also embellished with some light foliate scroll along the bow of the guard and features a simple pineapple finial. The pistol is fitted with German silver hardware including nosecap, oval wedge escutcheons, flash plate beneath the bolster, teardrop-shaped buttstock, shield monogram plate, dolphin-embellished sideplate and a 1 1/2" plate above the lock that is embellished with a rather folky seahorse. U.S. Model 1816 Harpers Ferry Flintlock Musket with Patriotic Decoration

Lot # 59 (Sale Order: 59 of 1059)

.69 cal, 42'' barrel with an oxidized bore. The barrel and bands are a soft brown patina with some areas of pewter toning and with light oxidation. The bands all show light pitting, the barrel with more moderate pitting in the flash area around the lock and touchole. The lockplate is similar with silvery case-hardening in the protected areas, its attendant parts a soft brown oxidized and lightly pitted patina. The Eagle is lost to the years however ''Harpers/Ferry/1836'' can be seen at the rear of the plate, the barrel tang 1837-dated and with the VP eaglehead firing proofs still evident. Triggerguard and buttplate are lightly and moderately oxidized and pitted. The stock rates very good with the expected the light dings and handling marks from the years and a 1/2'' chip at the toe. It is interestingly decorated, likely post-war by the veteran who took it home, with four German silver stars which are lightly Sunburst engraved, the right side of the butt with a winged cherub, which is not only somewhat folky but also somewhat porky, with trumpet and un-engraved riband. The left side of the butt shows a spread-winged Federal Eagle surrounded by three identical stars as the other inlays, with another un-engraved riband beneath his talons. The lock is mechanically functional and the gun appears to be in original flint in every respect. Overall a very folky and endearing musket, highly likely embellished by the fellow who brought it home and no doubt carried it in the service of our great nation. (38737-399) {ANTIQUE} [Dr. Louis C. March Jr. Collection]

Barrels retain about 98% original blue and are maker marked on right side with Swiss retailer marking ''W Glaser Armes Zürich'' on left, with some very light engraving at the breeches, they were proved in 1937. British Percussion Double Rifle by Em Reilly

Lot # 61 (Sale Order: 61 of 1059)

Description Update 05/31/2019: A very thin 2 1/2” long sliver missing right front forend.

serial #3402, about .58 cal, 23 1/2'' heavy four groove rifled bores rating about excellent showing some very light frosting. The barrels show very nice contrasting gray and brown mottled damascus twist their full-length, showing also some remnants of some very light pinprick pitting scattered about the left tube. The left tube is maker marked with London address, the right with ''& Rue Scribe Paris''. The unadorned lockplates and hammers retain about 90% original color case-hardening which is toning and muting slightly, a similar amount of blue-gray case-hardening is present on the tang. The tailpipe and triggerplate front extension are lightly sculpted and there is generous trace blue on the large single spur pistolgrip-style triggerguard extension. The checkered English walnut stock rates very good with overall light dings and handling marks from the years and a period-applied leather padded cheek rest along the combline; there is a small chip missing from the left side of the stock above the lockplate, it is cosmetic only in nature and does not affect the strength of the stock. The locks are crisp and mechanically functional and feature forward-sliding safeties, the case-hardened breeches feature platinum blowout plugs and both of the triggers show nice checkering on their faces; there is a tiny chip missing from the skirt atop the left hammer. The rifle is sighted with a simple bead front sight and a ladder-style step-adjustable long-range rear, the rib is neatly file-matted its full-length with some light engraving on its extension between the breeches. What is likely the original ramrod is included and the arm rides in a walnut presentation/storage case which rates very good, the interior showing a relining and refitting, with oil bottle, nickel silver ''spares'' box and a blued nipple wrench combination tool which is too small for this arm. Fitted with QD swivel studs. There is an EM Reilly makers label on the interior of the case. A quality-made British double rifle which appears solid and with some really sharp rifling which likely would still perform well afield. (3B7147-157) {ANTIQUE} [Terry Buffum Collection]

Charles Newton Percussion Double Combination Gun

Lot # 62 (Sale Order: 62 of 1059)

About 16 ga. and .62 caliber, 21 1/2'' barrels with bright very good plus to near excellent bores showing a bit of light oxidation. The barrels show remnants of their original damascus pattern, chiefly on the rib, the balance a tarnished pewter gray and speckled brown patina showing some lightly scattered pinprick pitting, more prominent along the left tube. Barrels show a bead style front sight with five leaf rear, one standing, four folding, graduated to 400 yards with platinum index lines. Top of the rib is maker marked ''Charles Newton (Late Rooke) Maker'' with the breech plugs showing a bit of light engraving on the rib extension between and with platinum blowout plugs. Tang shows some nice open scroll engraving as do each lockplate and the hammers, the plates retaining some fading smoky case colors. Both the tailpipe and front extension are neatly geometrically engraved with some open scroll on the bow of the guard. Buttplate tang is engraved and there is a recumbent Tiger on the pendulum style patchbox lid. The English walnut stock rates very good plus to perhaps near excellent showing overall light dings and handling marks, crisp edges, and very good original varnish. There is coarse wraparound checkering at both grip and forearm and there is a small drying crack in the right stock flat which then extends a bit beneath the lockplate. The locks are crisp and mechanically functional and what may be the original ramrod is present. A quality made combination ''buck and ball'' double ''rifle'' over all. (38737-315) {ANTIQUE} [Dr. Louis C. March Jr. Collection]

German Bockbuchsflinte Combination Gun by F W Heym

Lot # 64 (Sale Order: 64 of 1059)

serial #42496AH, 16 ga. over 7x65R, 23 1/2'' barrels with bright excellent bores, the shotgun barrel choked extra full. The barrels retain about 95% fading original blue, the loss due to some light high edge, muzzle wear and even fading. The scalloped boxlock frame is a tarnished pewter French gray with the aluminum bottom metal toning more to a battleship gray. The frame features very open flowing light Germanic scroll with game scenes left and right and makers name on the belly. Cheek flats show cocking indicators and the front trigger is a single-set, the plastic triggerguard shows a couple small abrasions or scratches here and there and a couple of the screws show some slot damage. The checkered walnut capped pistolgrip buttstock with slight hog back comb and splinter style forend rate very good as refinished, showing a heavy coat of varnish, some of-which has made its way onto the frame and attached metal parts. There are a couple minor flakes here and there and the forend shows two small 1/2'' cracks at left and right rear which appear to have been successfully repaired. Features skip-line checkered pistolgrip and forend, rounded shadowline left side cheekpiece and 14 1/4 length of pull to the grooved Heym buttplate. The arm is sighted with a simple brass bead front sight and dual position pivoting rear sight. The barrels have been fitted with dual claw scope bases with quick detachable see-through rings that mount a Hensoldt Diavari 1.5-6X telescopic sight with three post German #1 reticle and bright excellent optics. The front trigger does not currently set, nor will the rifle hammer drop, it does appear to cock properly however, no doubt an easy fix for a competent gunsmith on this quality-made arm. It would appear as though Norma 7x65R can be had for around 50 bucks a box, Sellier and Bellot make a much less-costly offering at just about 20 bucks a box. It is more than effective on moose, bear, deer, elk and wild boar. 1959 proofed (39100-890) {C&R} [Richard ''Stretch'' Kennedy Collection]

The metal surfaces show an old cleaning and are now a pale silver patina with scattered fine oxidation staining and remnants of scattered pinprick pitting, much more moderate at the breech, there is a small round impact mark in the right side of the barrel behind the rear band. The barrel has a light but visible VP eaglehead firing proof on the left diagonal flat, the top flat has an undecipherable date lost to the oxidation; the lockplate has appropriate type I "RICHMOND, VA." markings at the front and vertical 1861 date at the rear, the barrel bands are all "U" marked and the iron buttplate is "US" marked in front of the tang screw. The walnut stock rates about very good overall showing an older light cleaning with rounded edges, no visible left side cartouche and darker black finish in the middle band area, the cavity is not milled for the Maynard tape primer system and an iron forend nosecap is in place. The arm shows light chips and handling marks expected with age along with thin non-flexing cracks at the rear of the lockplate and from the left barrel flat through the rear lock screw to the tip of the rear tang. The arm is sighted with a lightly worn, but what appears to be proper, wide blade front sight and pinned rear sight in T-mortise slot. The action remains strong but does not lock properly in half cock and what appears to be a period tulip shaped iron ramrod is included. A very good plus example Richmond-made rifle musket. (58737-398) {ANTIQUE} [Dr. Louis C. March Collection]

Rare Confederate Richmond Armory Percussion Rifle-Musket

Lot # 72 (Sale Order: 72 of 1059)

.58 cal., 40" barrel with a near excellent bore showing crisp rifling with some very light oxidation. The metal surfaces are a bright silver patina with scattered modest oxidation and pitting and evidence of an older cleaning, the upper band and spring have since been cleaned bright all but removing the "U" in the band. The barrel is dated 1862 on the top flat and has light but visible VP eaglehead proof on the left diagonal flat; the lockplate has proper type II "C.S. / RICHMOND, VA." markings at the front and 1862 date at the rear. The middle and lower bands are "U" marked but are in different sizes and locations, the buttplate is not "U.S.'' marked, and along with the forend nosecap, shows pitting and a tarnished brass patina. The walnut stock rates very good as refinished, with light dents, handling marks, a thin crack through the rear lock bolt. Even though the lock cavity shows modest wear it appears to have the milled groove for the Maynard tape priming system. The arm has a proper wide blade front sight, replacement 1861 style musket sight, the T-mortise still present and what appears to be a period blacksmith replacement trumpet shaped iron ramrod is included. A very good plus to very good Richmond musket quite possibly with a captured 1855 stock. (58737-402) {ANTIQUE} [Dr. Louis C. March Collection]

Rare Prussian 1849 Naval Percussion Musket by Suhl with City of Philadelphia Marking

Lot # 74 (Sale Order: 74 of 1059)

.71 cal., 37" smoothbore barrel with an oxidized bore. The barrel is an overall brown patina with light pitting and scattered fine oxidation; the barrel shows areas of gray along the right wood line and most of the muzzle area in front of the upper band. The lock is a similar brown patina with gray undertones and scattered fine oxidation, more moderate on the bolster. The left diagonal flat is marked "CITY / OF / PHILADA" above A. Wurfflein inspection mark and the top flat has Prussian Federal Naval [double headed eagle] / [anchor] mark. Scarce Winchester Model 88 Lever Action Rifle with Original Box

Lot # 75 (Sale Order: 75 of 1059)

Description Update 05/31/2019: Small crack left side above lever.

serial #76641, .358 Win, 22'' barrel with a bright, excellent bore. This 1959 vintage rifle features a clover leaf tang with metal surfaces retaining 99% of their original finish. Original sights and front sight hood remain fully intact. The checkered walnut stock is nearly immaculate, with only a few very light handling marks sparsely scattered one must carefully look for. The rifle comes with one original concave arrow base magazine, the magazine shows a bit of wear and may be from another gun as the arm appears un-used, un-carried, unfired. The best part about this lovely gun is that it comes with its original factory box, serial numbered to the gun on the end label with interior inserts, onion skin wrap, hangtag, instructional pamphlet and ''Big Game Loads'' Winchester pocket catalog. The box has packing tape over its exterior at each end along with a U.S. Postal ''Insured'' ink stamp and a large red ''Fragile/Handle with Care'' label. The original dates sadly are missing from the postage stamps, it was shipped sometime in April, the box rates overall very good plus to fine. (69077-24) {C&R}
