Hammerli Style Martini Action Swiss Target Rifle by Banziger

Lot # 676 (Sale Order: 676 of 752)

serial #1657, About 41 cal. CF (other examples have been found with caliber listed as 41 Swiss), 34 1/2'' octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore, smooth for most of its length, rifled for roughly 5 1/2'' at the breech end. The barrel is a plum brown patina and has an overall coating of very light, soft surface oxidation with a simple bead style front sight, no rear is present atop the male dovetail rib. The frame is a pewter gray and a darker gray patina showing light oxidation staining and some scattered light pinprick pitting. It is marked on its right side ''J U Banziger St Gallen''. The European walnut buttstock and forend rate very fine as lightly cleaned many years ago, retaining a few minor dings and handling marks beneath the finish. The buttstock shows some very lovely grain figure and has a flared Germanic-style left side cheekpiece. The Swiss style butt shows some light oxidation and is primarily a pewter patina, the barrel shows some light dings at the breech end above the chamber. Equipped with double set triggers, the arm seems to function properly mechanically and is a very interesting example with its partial smooth-partial rifled bore. References tells us that Banziger was active from roughly 1848 to perhaps 1906. (3A10174-11) {C&R} (500/700)

Parker Grade 2 Double Hammer Shotgun

Lot # 677 (Sale Order: 677 of 752)

serial #41782, 12 ga. (2 5/8''), 32'' damascus steel barrels choked about improved cylinder and cylinder, with about fair bores which show light and moderate pitting their full length, a spot or two we may characterize as heavy. The barrels are now a tarnished pewter and dull gray patina showing no remnants of their original damascus pattern, the rib markings remaining intact with a small floral engraving at rear. The No. 2 size frame is grade-marked ''2'' and is a dull gray and soft brown patina with some freckles of silvery case-hardening here and there, with sprays of light open scroll and a waterfowl vignette on the belly which has softened somewhat. The locks are a deep blue-gray, also with light sprays of scroll and game birds left and right along with ''Parker Bros''. The checkered capped pistolgrip English walnut buttstock rates about very good as lightly cleaned many years ago, the checkering now worn nearly smooth, with remnants of light dings and handling marks. The length of pull to the Parker dog's head buttplate is 14 1/4'' with drops of 1 3/4'' and 3''. The splinter forend is worn nearly smooth with the metal being proud overall showing light dings and handling marks. The arm appears on the face for the most part, the left tube showing some vestiges of tiny slivers of light, but the hammers are in time and the rebounding locks function properly, the top lever is drifting left of center. The included factory letter shows shipment to EC Meacham Arms in September of 1884, verifies the length of pull, gauge and barrel length, capped pistolgrip and G-quality. A somewhat tired old Grade 2 which may still have some life left after a competent inspection by a good barrel man. (3A10052-9) {ANTIQUE} (500/700)

Winchester Model 1890 Slide Action Rifle

Lot # 678 (Sale Order: 678 of 752)

serial #599768, 22 Long, 24'' octagon barrel with a good bore showing some worn rifling and scattered pitting its full length. The barrel is a mix of dark gray-blue faded original blue and drifting to a soft plum patina but with good edges and good markings. The triggerguard and receiver have now toned to a warm plum brown and are mostly smooth, with some light oxidation staining here and there and perhaps a scattered pit or two; the buttplate is similar. The smooth straight grip walnut buttstock rates very good with much original varnish and the expected overall light dings and handling marks from the years, the grooved forend showing a bit more wear with only trace varnish. What is likely the original patent date Lyman front sight is in place as is the 1901 style rear sight and the action seems to function well mechanically. Still an attractive third model 1890 that is certainly worth having the barrel relined. (3A10038-5) {C&R} (500/700)

Smith & Wesson 38 Safety Hammerless Revolver with Original Box

Lot # 682 (Sale Order: 682 of 752)

serial #244189, 38 S&W, 3 1/4'' ribbed round barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces of this attractive fifth model revolver retain about 98% excellent factory-quality restored blue with most of the loss due to some scattered small areas of minor oxidation speckling along the barrel and gripstraps and perhaps a few small handling marks. Some of the screw heads show light slot wear and the trigger shows vibrant case-hardened colors. The revolver does not show a factory star rework stamp and the only indication, however subtle, of refinishing is the softened top edge of the S&W trade mark on the right side of the frame. The remaining markings are crisp and the blue appears factory in every respect. The black checkered hard rubber grips remain in excellent condition, the left panel is un-numbered and the right is stamp-numbered matching. Barrel-to-frame fit is excellent and the action seems to function well mechanically. The original brownish-red paper-covered box is pencil-numbered matching along the base and rates very fine showing some light scuffs and edge wear. The pale green end label rates near excellent and there are also remnants of a period sticker with the serial number. There is some light flaking along the interior of the box and the internal labels remain mostly intact and very fine. (13A9100-645) {C&R} [Richard ''Stretch'' Kennedy Collection] (600/800)

Description Update 8/25/21: Short crack behind upper tang

serial #138753, 22 Savage Hi-Power, 20'' barrel with a bright very good bore showing some scattered light pitting in the strong rifling. The metal surfaces of this Featherweight Takedown rifle retain about 85% original blue which is strongest on the barrel and lever, with a narrow area around the barrel address toning to gray, along with some scattered spots of light oxidation and light handling marks toning to gray along the barrel. Parker $110 Grade Underlifter Double Hammergun

Lot # 695 (Sale Order: 695 of 752)

serial #8244, 10 ga on a No. 2 frame, 26'' professionally shortened barrels with good lightly pitted bores. The barrels have a silvery patina showing a light star damascus pattern, scattered light pitting, fine oxidation staining scattered throughout, and a light ding on the top of the left barrel about 8'' from the muzzle. The frame has toned to gunmetal gray with light oxidation staining, a few light handling marks, a few small spots of pinprick pitting, and evidence of light cleaning on the sideplates and fences. The checkered pistolgrip walnut stock is in very good condition as lightly cleaned with four professional-quality pin repairs to a few cracks on the right side of the upper tang, the tangs and steel buttplate are slightly proud, a few light handling marks, an added finish, and the checkering has smoothed and is no longer tactile; the buttstock shows some very nice figure on the left side, has an 13 1/2'' length of pull, and an unengraved shield-shaped monogram plate is on the top of the wrist. The frame is lightly decorated with some geometric line engraving around the borders, touches of loose foliate scroll engraving, ''PARKER BROS'' on both sideplates, and the rib is lightly marked ''PARKER BROS MAKERS MERIDEN CONN; DAMASCUS STEEL''; spots of the engraving have softened and faded away. The barrels, forend, extractor, and forend wedge are numbered to the shotgun. Both barrels are off-face and showing light between the breech and standing breech, but the rebounding hammers are in-time and the shotgun appears to function well mechanically. Included with the shotgun is a letter from the Parker Gun Collectors Association, noting that Parker shotgun 8244 was ordered on February 15, 1877, was an $110 dollar grade underlifter action in 10 ga, and had damascus barrels. The length of pull and the barrel length listed in the letter, 14 1/4'' and 30'', is longer than that measured on the shotgun, but the letter additionally notes that factory return and repair records do not exist and that such work was common place. Altogether a nice example of these early Parker Brothers shotguns. (14A10052-10) {ANTIQUE} (500/700)
