Fine German Double Ejector Rifle by Eckerbrecht and Scherping

Lot # 51 (Sale Order: 51 of 752)

Description Update 08/20/2021: Chambered in 8x57 JR, Not 7mm

serial #4002, 8X57 JR, 24 3/4'' Krupp Laufstahl barrels with bright very fine to perhaps near excellent bores, the right barrel showing some very sparsely scattered very light pitting, the rifling remaining clean and sharp. The barrels retain perhaps 95% original rust blue, the loss is due to even fading with some slight toning to plum, a bit of light muzzle wear and the very finest pinprick pitting on the left barrel just above the forearm area, hardly worth the mention and missed at first glance. The tops of each barrel are marked ''Heinrich Scherping Hanover'' and ''Jnh Heinrich Eckerbrecht Hofbuchsenmacher'' with light bands of engraving at the sideclipped breeches and on the Greener extension. The scalloped boxlock frame is a very nice tarnished pewter patina with some smoky case colors behind the fences and ahead of the triggerguard, showing near overall tight scroll and nice geometric beading along the bolsters beneath the sideclipped and arcaded fences. The belly of the frame is marked identically to the tops of the barrels and there are nice pin-style cocking indicators left and right. The top lever retains very good original blue with fading case-hardening on the bow of the triggerguard, a very nice long tang extension to its rear of gray-green horn which remains uncracked and unchipped. The checkered scant Prince-of-Wales grip, English walnut buttstock rates about excellent with a rounded shadowline cheekpiece and a nice chinstrap to the rear of the grip, showing some lovely grain figure and the expected light handling marks that come from the years. The length of pull to the checkered butt is 14 1/2'' with the drops of 1 1/2'' and 2 5/8''. The splinter style forend rates very fine and is near fully checkered with a small horn tip insert which shows a small ding and there is a tiny barely noticeable repaired crack at the rear of forend at iron. The rifle is sighted with a simple silver bead front sight, single standing rear and has a Rudiger 4X telescopic sight fitted to quick-detach dual claw bases. The scope rates very good with fading trace original blue and is primarily a gray-pewter patina and has a very nice thick post-and crosshair space dot reticle with bright excellent optics. It is marked ''4x81'' and appears to be variable from about 2 1/2X-4X. The arm features double triggers, the front a single set, and Greener style safety. Lockup is tight on face with dual under bites and Greener crossbolt and seems to function well mechanically. A handsome and very usable German double ejector rifle proofed in July 1930, in an excellent North American caliber weighing in at 8 lbs. 13 oz. with scope. (3D10161-2) {C&R} (6000/8000)

Lot # 60 (Sale Order: 60 of 752)

serial #8724, 50 Express, 26'' octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore which shows perhaps a few very sparsely scattered flecks of light oxidation or perhaps a pinprick pit. This is a very lovely rifle remaining in a very fine state of condition and in a very scarce configuration, most of the 50 Express rifles you will see have short barrels and shotgun butts, this full-length arm retains the classic crescent buttplate. U.S. Colt Second Model Dragoon Percussion Revolver

Lot # 65 (Sale Order: 65 of 752)

serial #9122, .44 cal, 7 3/8'' part round part octagon barrel with an oxidized bore showing some good rifling nearer the breech. The metal surfaces of this revolver have mostly toned to a dark gray and plum-brown patina showing some scattered light oxidation staining, old light pitting and some dings along the right side around the wedge. The cylinder and loading lever assembly are a slightly lighter and smoother gray patina and are no doubt later replacements that have been re-stamped to match, the number font style not quite matching the balance of the arm. The backstrap and square-back triggerguard are a pale ocher patina showing scattered overall dings and tool marks. A couple of screws are older replacements and all original markings remain intact and quite strong, the barrel showing proper New York address and the left side frame with ''M'' inspector stamp, ''COLT'S PATENT'' and ''U.S'' property mark. There is a small punch mark below the serial number on the frame and the triggerguard is stamped with a ''K'' inspector mark. The cylinder shows no evident scene and is stamped with an ''*'' on the face and ''P'' at the rear. The bottom barrel lug shows an antique brazed repair that was certainly done during the period of use and is missed at first glance though it does leave a small gap where the barrel and frame meet. The smooth walnut grip remains in good condition as-cleaned showing some scattered fine scratches, a few small handling marks and edges a little shy of the frame; there are the faintest hints of inspector cartouches visible on either side. Beyond the loading lever and cylinder, all of the remaining serialized parts are matching in proper original font including the wedge and the action is a little stiff but generally seems to function well. A salty old Second Model Dragoon with plenty of character that would make a good addition to any Colt or U.S. martial collection. (13E10135-1) {ANTIQUE} (4000/5000)

Colt Model 1848 “Baby Dragoon” Percussion Revolver

Lot # 66 (Sale Order: 66 of 752)

serial #10609, .31 cal., 3 13/16'' modified replacement octagon barrel showing light oxidation and pitting. The revolver has a replacement barrel that was shortened and included a rammer. The metal surfaces have been cleaned to gunmetal gray with sections of even pitting and a few handling marks. The five-shot cylinder is smooth with the original scene no longer visible, the patent marking, and serial number were softened from the cleaning. The brass Dragoon style grip frame is medium goldenrod with a single tiny patch of original silver plate inside the triggerguard. The smooth one-piece factory walnut grips no longer have a legible number, they have been lightly cleaned and refinished leaving the metal proud of the wood although overall condition remains excellent. The cylinder, triggerguard strap and backstrap are numbered to the gun, however the barrel is a replacement as is the un-numbered basepin. The barrel and wedge are numbered alike (#189271) with a New-York address. The rammer is numbered differently and shows a frontier replacement finger jointed to the front half of the rammer. This gun features a hammer without a roller, oval cylinder-stop holes, it still functions mechanically, the hammer has vertical movement when at rest, the fit of the lug to the frame leaves a small gap and the frame is proud of the lug. A nice gun for the upstart collector. (8A10091-13) {ANTIQUE} [Chester Reginald Dunbar Collection] (800/1200)

Parker VHE Boxlock Double Ejectorgun

Lot # 67 (Sale Order: 67 of 752)

serial #232290, 16 ga. (2 3/4''), 30'' Vulcan steel barrels choked roughly improved cylinder and full with bright excellent bores showing the remnants of two professionally raised very small dings on the undersides about 8'' from the muzzles. The barrels are rather nice retaining about 95 to perhaps near 97% original blue, showing light fading, muzzle wear and some toning to plum near the breeches and with the factory machine crosshatching at the breech faces still mostly visible. They have the expected light scratch or handling mark here and there from the years, but all markings remain crisp. The No. 1 frame retains perhaps 80-85% fading color case-hardening, the carry point at the belly toning to a smooth pewter patina but with some vibrant colors in the areas beneath the fences, around the guard at the triggerplate, and at the top lever. The checkered capped pristolgrip American walnut buttstock rates very good plus with much original varnish and the expected light dings and handling marks that come from a field-used arm, the shield-shaped monogram plate along the toeline un-engraved and the period installed Hawkins ventilated recoil pad giving a 14 3/8'' length of pull; drops are 1 1/2'' and 2 3/8''. The splinter style forend is similar showing perhaps a bit more wear with small repaired cracks right and left at the iron, but with the release showing some good case colors, fading on the thistle tip insert. The arm locks up tightly on face with the top lever at center and seems to function very well mechanically. An excellent and solid candidate for the fall bird season with plenty of time to put it through its paces before the first week of October. (3B10159-1) {C&R} (2000/4000)

Parker GH Boxlock Double Shotgun

Lot # 68 (Sale Order: 68 of 752)

serial #171907, 20 ga. (2 1/2''), 26'' special steel barrels, the right un-choked, the left with perhaps .006'' of constriction. This is a lovely ''0'' frame gun that has been beautifully restored top to bottom. The barrels retain about 98-99% excellent quality rust blue and are equipped with dual ivory beads. The G grade engraving remains crisp and the frame retains 99% excellent Remington-style vibrant color case-hardening with restored blue on the top lever and triggerguard. The checkered capped pistolgrip American walnut buttstock rates very fine with few mentionable dings, with the finish starting to crackle and craze, normally a result of too much hardener when the finish is applied, but on a good usable field gun is of no consequence. The splinter style forend rates excellent also as refinished, both with crisp checkering, the forend metal with excellent blue and case colors. The length of pull to the 1'' ventilated recoil pad is 14 1/2'' with drops of 1 1/2'' and 2 1/4''. The gun locks up tight on-face with the top lever right of center and features double triggers, automatic safety and extractors. There is no wall thickness noted below .025'' in the left barrel nor below .027'' in the right, most being well over .030''. While Parker records indicate 30'' barrels, the umatted ''rib'' ahead of the bead appears correct, the barrels are numbered in the exact font as the frame and they very nearly touch with a .020'' gap at muzzles. A lovely close-cover GH restored to very nearly as-new that is awaiting only crisp fall mornings and a willing brace of dogs. (3B10097-19) {C&R} (2000/4000)

The barrels on this lovely shotgun retain about 98% plus original blue, the loss due only to a few very light, very superficial handling marks here and there near the porting. The factory upgraded checkered pistolgrip deluxe grade walnut buttstock rates excellent with one notable scratch along the left side to the rear of the checkering, it is minor in nature, with a factory adjustable comb, the length of pull to the Pachmayr SC-100 sporting clays pad is 14 1/2''. The Krieghoff scant Schnabel forend rates excellent as well showing a couple very minor scuffs or handling marks here and there. Walter Kolouch Engraved Ithaca Perazzi Mirage Over Under Shotgun Set

Lot # 71 (Sale Order: 71 of 752)

serial #48780, 12 ga., 28'' ventilated rib barrels choked about skeet and skeet with bright excellent bores and slanted slot porting both top and bottom. This is a wonderfully embellished shotgun by the gifted engraver Walter Kolouch, with three sets of Kolar sub gauge tubes in 20 ga., 28 ga. and .410 bore, all with bright excellent bores. The .410 bore tubes are choked about skeet, the 28 ga. choked about modified, and the 20 ga. a tight improved cylinder, they appear to rate overall excellent. The shotgun barrels retain perhaps 97% original blue, the loss of due to light fading and some light muzzle wear, with some lighter sprays of quality scroll on the barrel bolsters and ''Mirage'' inlaid in gold. The receiver has overall open flowing scroll and floral decoration in the Germanic style and is a pleasing tarnished pewter patina. There is a gold inlaid and chiseled flying pigeon on the belly of the frame with chiseled gold open flowing foliate scroll inlays both left and right. The checkered walnut pistolgrip buttstock rates very good to fine with the expected light dings and handling marks and a small chip at the beginning edge of the pistolgrip. It is fitted with an adjustable buttplate which has had a kick-eez recoil pad installed for a 14'' length of pull, the adjustable comb is neatly leather-covered. The Perazzi forend rates very fine with a few light handling marks about its surface. Amusingly when the top lever is actuated, we find inlaid in gold beneath it ''Keep Your Head Down''. The ejectors have been deactivated and the safety has been pinned in the ''off safe'' position. The gun rides in a quality dual tiered lockable carry case with Allen wrenches, no-mar hammer and nylon sub gauge tube installer-remover, spare Perazzi trigger mechanism (that mechanism is blued and un-engraved), the case rating about very good showing its age somewhat. The arm locks up tight with a tiny tiny sliver of light between the top barrel and the standing breech, but the top lever still right of center, there is a green fiber-optic front sight and silver midrib bead. A handsome 1977-made Perazzi Mirage for between the houses that likely will dust birds in style. (310151-4) {MODERN} (4000/7000)
serial #48780, 12 ga., 28'' ventilated rib barrels choked about skeet and skeet with bright excellent bores and slanted slot porting both top and bottom. This is a wonder...morefully embellished shotgun by the gifted engraver Walter Kolouch, with three sets of Kolar sub gauge tubes in 20 ga., 28 ga. and .410 bore, all with bright excellent bores.

Attractive Cased Pair of Scottish Percussion Pistols with Snap Bayonets by Martin of Glasgow

Lot # 72 (Sale Order: 72 of 752)

.45 cal, 3 1/4'' barrels with very good smoothbores showing some scattered fine pitting. This is a handsome pair of pistols, the barrels of both showing a fading antique brown finish toning to a pleasant smooth gray-brown patina and with nice foliate embellishments at the muzzles. The boxlock frames are a nice silvery pewter tone showing a little gray freckling and sparse pinprick pits and the triggerguards and sliding safeties show strong blue with some mild flaking and scratch marks from the bayonets. The sides of the frames show very nice tasteful border embellishments with some lovely detailed foliate flourishes showing ''MARTIN'' in riband on the left and ''GLASGOW'' on the right. The undersides of the barrels and frames show Birmingham proofs. The hammer on one pistol shows good vibrant case-hardened colors and the other is toned to pewter. The bayonets are similar to the frames and feature 2'' triangular fluted blades and their springs retain fine brilliant fire blue. The smooth walnut grips are in excellent condition showing one or two tiny dings and feature un-engraved silver monogram plates along the backstraps. Both locks are crisp and the bayonets snap with authority. The period mahogany case rates very fine showing strong exterior varnish with the expected scattered scuffs and light dings, the lid with a circular un-engraved brass escutcheon. The interior is lined in blue velvet, possibly restored long ago, showing some mild scuffs and one loose partition. Included is an unmarked likely more modern oiler and a charming antique diminutive powder flask that measures about 2 3/4'' and rates very good showing a couple shallow dents, oxidized spring and a small crack along the collar of the top. A lovely little pair of pistols with desirable snap bayonets for the antique arms collector. The Martin family was active in the Glasgow area for quite some time from the late 1770's onwards, these pistols likely made in the mid 1800's. (13B10091-248) {ANTIQUE} [Chester Reginald Dunbar Collection] (2000/3000)

Pair of European Flintlock Coat Pistols

Lot # 73 (Sale Order: 73 of 752)

.60 cal, 6 1/8'' octagon barrels, slightly swamped at the muzzles, with lightly oxidized bores. These pistols appear to be of French construction and show a small ''(Crown) / M'' along the left side breech flats and three small gold touch marks at the breeches that are difficult to discern. The metal surfaces are mostly a mix of pewter gunmetal and mild gray patina showing some sparsely scattered pinprick pitting and remnants of old minor oxidation, the barrels showing evidence of an old cleaning with visible striations. The hardware is semi-fancy though unembellished and the lockplates are unmarked and rather compact with slightly beveled edges and pronounced teats at the rears. The locks feature graceful swan neck cocks, waterproof pans with bridled frizzens and frizzen springs with nice chiseled extensions. The pistols are equipped with heavy buttcaps that are somewhat loose. The checkered walnut stocks rate about very good, one pistol showing a small repaired chip at the left edge tip and the other showing a more extensive repair with a 3'' reattached portion and some filler along the left side tip and edge. The stocks otherwise just show the expected scattered small drying cracks, a couple tiny shallow chips and overall light dings with some areas of attractive subtle grain figure. The pistols are equipped with rear sights but no front sights and what appear to be the original horn ramrods are present, one is missing its worm end. Both locks seem to function well mechanically. A rather nice pair of pistols that have seen honest use. (13B10091-75) {ANTIQUE} [Chester Reginald Dunbar Collection] (1000/1500)
