Fine U.S. Model 1812 Flintlock Musket by Springfield Armory with Pennsylvania Marking
Lot # 180 (Sale Order: 180 of 673)
.69 cal., 41 1/2” barrel with a lightly-oxidized bore. The metal surfaces of this attractive original flint Type II musket are toning to a silvery gunmetal patina with light-moderate pitting around the touchhole and softened pinprick-light pitting overall. The lockplate and breech markings are crisp with the rear of the lockplate dated 1816 while “US / (Federal Eagle) / SPRINGFIELD” is ahead of the cock. The top of the breech shows a clear “PA / 11” along with “US” and the familiar “P / (Eagle Head) / V” is on the left side of the breech. The buttplate tang is also dated “1816.” The inside of the lockplate bears inspector initials “BH” and all the components of the lock are marked “C.” The walnut stock rates fine with two thin smoothed over slivers above the lockplate, and the expected scattered dings and minor handling marks. The left side of the comb features the characteristic shallow cheekpiece, and there are softened inspection marks on the left stock flat and toe line. The brass front sight blade, button-head ramrod, and stud-type barrel band retainers are intact, and the lock is very robust and crisp. A wonderful example of a Model 1812 Musket, this one clearly having served the Keystone State. (23B11567-1) {ANTIQUE} (2000/2500)

The barrels of this Belgian 1988-production Grade I Superlight retain about 98% original blue with a few spots of light oxidation and a touch of light silvering from disassembly. Winchester Pre ’64 Model 70 Bolt Action Rifle
Lot # 189 (Sale Order: 189 of 673)
serial #116066, 250-3000 Sav, 23 3/4” barrel with a bright very good plus bore with scattered pinprick pits easily missed at first glance, still showing strong rifling throughout. The barrel appears to have been neatly set back by about 1/4”, perhaps as a result of correcting headspace, the only initial clue being the edge of the Winchester “WP” proof peeking out from beneath the receiver. The metal surfaces of this 1949-made rifle retain about 95% original blue with light wear on high edges and contact points, light silvering at the muzzle, light clamp marks around the breech, and some scattered light handling marks and specks of old oxidation. The bolt remains mostly bright with some light operational wear and speckled gray freckling, the shroud and extractor retaining strong blue, and the bolt handle toning to gray. The checkered pistolgrip walnut stock is in excellent condition as lightly refinished with a light handling mark or two, and the checkered steel widow’s peak buttplate is proud at the toe; sling swivels are present on the forend and toeline. The receiver and barrel markings are intact and crisp, the underside of the barrel showing the correct “250 SAV” caliber marking, “49” date, and index mark now butted up against the receiver, and the bolt is lightly numbered to the rifle. The rifle is sighted with a ramped bead front sight with hood, the bead bent towards the left, and a buckhorn sporting-style rear sight, and the receiver is factory drilled and tapped for optics and receiver sight mounting. A solid example from the last year of 250 Savage production, with an apparent curious history. (14B11464-30) {C&R} (2000/3000)

Rare 1934 Swiss Commercial Mauser Banner Luger Pistol
Lot # 197 (Sale Order: 197 of 673)
serial #3721v, 30 Luger, 4 3/4” barrel with a bright near excellent bore showing a little minor frosting and strong rifling throughout. This is a peculiar example of a very rare low-production contract that has been very professionally refinished, perhaps in Switzerland, and most of the major components renumbered in font quite close to factory style, but not exactly correct. This renumbering includes the barrel (which also has lost its “v” suffix), receiver and seemingly the frame though the suffix on the frame looks correct. The remaining small parts appear to be a mix of re-stamped and original “21” markings. This short frame pistol shows small Mauser banner logo on the toggle and “(Eagle) / N” proofs on the left side receiver, left side breechblock and front sight base stamped upside down. The metal surfaces retain about 97% older reapplied rust blue finish showing some very slight high edge wear and some scattered pinprick pitting beneath the finish. The small parts show very nice restored straw color and fire blue finishes and the markings are strong with Swiss cross in starburst atop the chamber. The checkered walnut grips remain in very fine to near excellent condition showing a few lightly chipped points and retaining very nice fit. The right panel is un-numbered and the left panel is pencil-numbered “493”. The grooved firing pin is matching numbered “21” and the remaining serialized parts are matching as renumbered and described above. One un-numbered bright-bodied aluminum base magazine is included. This serial number is listed on Table 25.05 in “The Mauser Parabellum 1930-1946” by Hallock and van de Kant. This is a somewhat mysterious example, perhaps refurbished in Switzerland or on these shores. (13C11440-1) {C&R} (2000/3000)
German P.08 Luger 1921 Weimar Pistol by DWM
Lot # 198 (Sale Order: 198 of 673)
serial #4715a, 9mm, 4” barrel with a bright excellent bore. This is a rather scarce variant as a 1921 production Weimar pistol still not equipped with any police hardware and retaining a matching magazine. The metal surfaces retain about 90-92% original blue with some thinning to gray-brown patina along the gripstraps and high edges, a few small spots of old light pitting and some minor dings that are mostly around the takedown lever. The small parts retain fading straw color, the sear spring retains brilliant fire blue and all markings remain intact and mostly strong, the proper “Weimar dove” Waffenamts on the right side of the receiver rather soft as is often seen. The checkered beech grips remain in very good plus condition showing some light dings and honest wear to the checkering. The remaining serialized parts are matching including the un-grooved firing pin. The pistol includes one bright-bodied wood base magazine correctly stamp-numbered matching the pistol on the base, the base showing one thin drying crack forming. A nice example and interesting variant for the Luger collector. (13B11591-34) {C&R} (1200/1800)
