Attractive Austrian Scalloped Boxlock Drilling by Dschulnigg

Lot # 203 (Sale Order: 203 of 673)

serial #36788, 12 ga (2 3/4”) over 30-06, 23 3/4” Bohler Blitz-stahl barrels choked improved cylinder and modified with bright excellent bores, the barrels very slightly shortened. The barrels of this 1954 proof-dated drilling retain about 96-97% original blue showing some very light handling marks and subtle thinning under bright light. The action is a nice even case-hardened gray with a touch of mild silvering along the high edges and is extensively embellished with attractive foliate scrollwork and floral bouquets, the sides with handsome detailed game scenes of running boar on the left and three ducks on the right. The checkered capped pistolgrip walnut buttstock and forend remain in very fine condition showing a little older added finish with some scattered light dings and a few minor scuffs at the toe. The checkering remains strong and the left-side shadowline cheekpiece well-defined, the wood exhibiting some lovely grain figure throughout. The pistolgrip cap is a little loose and the original sling swivels and grooved black plastic buttplate are intact. Length-of-pull is 14 5/8” with drops of 1 1/2” and 2 3/4”. The barrels are sighted with a silver bead front sight and rear u-notch that flips up automatically when the rifle barrel is selected. There is a left-side Greener safety, upper tang barrel selector and double triggers, the front a set for the rifle though the set function will require a little attention as it seems a bit gummed up. Barrels lock up solid on-face with the top lever resting about center and weight is 7 lbs. 9 1/2 oz. A nice Austrian drilling from this well-regarded maker in classic American chamberings. (13D11508-16) {C&R} [N.R.A. Firearms For Freedom] (2500/4000)
