The bore is in poor condition, with well-worn rifling and visible rust upon limited inspection. It is equipped with a rifle rear sight and brass front sight, and the stock is adorned with decorative brass fixtures, including a full patch box, brass butt plate, and brass trigger guard. The stock is marked “J.M. Burns” on the side opposite the lock, identifying John (J.M.) Burns of Maryland, who later resided in Center Township, Columbiana County, Ohio. The stock has been chipped and repaired at the forend, and there are cracks and chips near the nipple. The hammer is heavily pitted, and the set trigger is not fully functional. The octagonal barrel shows pitting, particularly near the lock area. The rifle is in fair overall condition and includes a wooden ramrod.
