1965 CHEVROLET CORVETTE 396/425 CUTAWAY ENGINE DISPLAY

Lot # 1401 (Sale Order: 202 of 285)

The General Motors Futurama Pavilion was the largest exhibit at the 1964-65 New York World?s Fair with three unique elements in 1965: the new Mako Shark II (later transformed into the Manta Ray that?s now part of the GM Heritage Center collection) a very special cutaway ?65 Sting Ray fuel-injected coupe and a cutaway Mark IV 396 engine. It was a banner year in technology for the Corvette. This unique Cutaway Engine from the World?s Fair display has been restored to its 1965 glory powered by a starter motor with careful and well-thought-out incisions made into all the major components to illustrate its build quality and overall operation. As part of the Futurama exhibit at the World?s Fair presenting the world?s most advanced technology GM engineers were eager to showcase this new engine they were introducing in mid-1965 which produced 425hp with 396ci ? more horsepower than any of the other 396 engines manufactured from mid-1965 until production ended in 1969. Ultimately this engine spelled the end for the Rochester fuel-injection system as the carbureted 396/425 option cost much less than the fuel-injected 327/375. However by the time the Cutaway Corvette and Cutaway Engine displays were complete they were both obsolete. The Fuelie Corvette was not produced after 1965 and the 396 was immediately replaced by the 427 to keep up with the competition: Ford Chrysler and other GM models all had 420-plus cubic-inch engines by late 1965. A 396 just wasn?t enough. This one-of-a-kind Cutaway Engine represents not only a unique piece of General Motors and Corvette history but an opportunity to look inside an incredible example of automotive engineering.

Lot # 1402 (Sale Order: 203 of 285)

This 1969 ZL1 Camaro is car #27 and was previously owned by baseball great Reggie Jackson. It was received at Fred Gibb Chevrolet on March 11 1969 and was returned to Chevrolet on May 24 1969 for redistribution due to the excessive cost of the ZL1 option. Allan Green Chevrolet of Seattle WA took delivery of the Camaro in late 1969. The first owner of the car was Dick Tutino the service manager at Allan Green Chevrolet. Dick ran in NHRA Super Stock Class and was sponsored by Allan Green Chevrolet and Boeing Airplane Company until Allan Green closed in 1970. After the 1971 season Dick took the car to a race shop to have the rear wheel wells slightly enlarged. The shop removed the entire trunk floor in error. Dick sued the race shop for damages and won. He could not race the ZL1 in this condition so he found another body and pieced the car back together again. It has been returned to its original color of Fathom Green. The vehicles VIN was one of 50 69 ZL1 Camaros purchased under Chevrolets Central Office Production Order (COPO) in order to qualify the engine and transmission for NHRA competition. The high-performance unit included an all-aluminum 427ci ZL1 engine automatic transmission special ducted cool-air hood heavy-duty radiator heavy-duty springs and a special BE heavy-duty 4.10 posi-traction rear axle. The VIN is documented from GM and Fred Gibb Chevrolet. This car has been rebodied and features a non-OEM Trim Tag.

2006 FORD GT HERITAGE EDITION

Lot # 1406 (Sale Order: 205 of 285)

Ford Motor Company marked its 100-year anniversary in 2003. In celebration of Fords 100 years and to honor the 40-year anniversary of the GT40s 1-2-3 finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966 as well as its consecutive wins from 1966-69 the Ford GT was born. Looking at the left front headlight cluster the lights read 100 in recognition of the 100-year anniversary. The GT40 (so-named because of its 40 height) is an iconic car in American automotive and racing history. Carroll Shelbys influence and input with the GT40 put an end to Ferraris 1960s dominance of Le Mans racing in 1966. This GT is among the last 20 of the 2006 Limited Edition Heritage Livery GTs built; this is #324 of the 343 produced. With 77 actual miles it comes with all four available options offered: McIntosh stereo BBS forged-aluminum lightweight wheels Gun Metal Gray brake calipers and the $13500 Blue/Orange Heritage paint option. This car was built to pay homage to the Legendary GT40 and it does exactly that. The distinctive Heritage GT is a dramatic representation of John Wyers Gulf livery GT40 car that celebrated consecutive 24 Hours of Le Mans First-Place finishes in 1968 and 1969. The mid-engined GT features a 5.4-liter hand-built all-aluminum Eaton-supercharged engine fueled by a multi-port fuel-injection system. An electronic ignition with push-button start fires up the engine which breathes through a stainless-steel dual exhaust system and is capable of producing 550bhp. The Ricardo 6-speed manual transmission offers a smooth engagement of all gears. Air conditioning and the McIntosh Audiophile sound system contribute to interior comfort. Stopping power is provided by Brembo vented disc brakes with 4-piston calipers in an anti-lock braking system. Registering a top speed of over 200 mph and a zero to 60 time of 3.3 seconds this is a True American Supercar. CARFAX shows Ford Motor Company manufacturer safety recall issued on 06/30/2016: Passenger airbag inflator replacement.

2011 PORSCHE 911 GT2 RS

Lot # 1409 (Sale Order: 207 of 285)

As if the standard 997-generation 911 GT2 was not fast enough Porsche decided to give the model one final send-off before the introduction of the 991 and it was decided that the GT2 would receive the full RS treatment. Shedding a further 154 pounds from the 3175-pound curb weight of the standard GT2 the GT2 RS utilizes additional carbon-fiber body panels to help reduce unnecessary weight. At its heart is a new version of the twin-turbo 4-cam 6-cylinder engine developed for the GT1 Le Mans race car. This has been fitted with new 4-valve heads Variocam-Plus and variable-turbine technology. All this brings the engine?s output to 620bhp and 516 ft/lbs of torque which is put to the pavement through a 6-speed manual transmission. This increase in power output decrease in weight and special attention paid to aerodynamics highlighted by the GT2 RS? imposing bi-plane rear spoiler allowed for drastic increases in performance. As per Porsche a sprint from a standstill to 60 mph would take just 3.3 seconds. Accelerating to 100 mph can be reached in less than 7 seconds leading the GT2 RS to a top speed of 209 mph. The performance was reined in through the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake system the PASM adaptive suspension and stability control. Perhaps the car?s most impressive performance figure was its lap time around the N...rburgring Nordschleife: 7 minutes and 18 seconds ? faster than the Porsche Carrera GT Ferrari 488 GTB Maserati MC12 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 and Lexus LFA N...rburgring. With production completed in October 2010 this GT2 RS is one of only 142 examples destined for North America of 500 GT2 RSs built bearing Serial #167. It left the factory sporting black paint over two-tone black and red Alcantara and leather interior and was fitted with a plethora of options from the factory. These included the Sport Chrono Plus Package PCM with navigation and Bluetooth connectivity the thicker 3-spoke steering wheel in leather and Alcantara the PCM Package in carbon fiber the center console painted in black and the roll cage painted in Guards Red. Well-kept and preserved throughout its life this GT2 RS has been driven just 7542 actual miles from new. Today it presents nicely both inside and out.

JOHN LENNONS 1965 MERCEDES-BENZ 230SL ROADSTER

Lot # 1418 (Sale Order: 216 of 285)

Launched at the prestigious March 1963 Geneva Auto Show the new 230SL roadster succeeded both the 300Sl and the 190SL lines marking a new single-platform policy for Mercedes-Benz sports cars. Internally codded W113 and of monocoque construction the SL featured chiseled body lines penned by noted and prolific designer Paul Bracq. The new SL went on to become an unqualified postwar icon and given the instantly iconic styling upscale cachet and inherent excellence of the 230SL it is only natural that it would captivate a fast-rising musician/songwriter from Liverpool who was finally enjoying the fruits of virtually endless writing touring and recording. That young man was John Winston Lennon and this is his 1965 Mercedes-Benz 230SL. A thrilling find for anyone even remotely interested in the British musical invasion of the Swinging 60s and sporting automobiles this 230SL was the choice of a man who by the mid-1960s could choose any automobile. While he grew up in Liverpool a favorite target of the German Luftwaffe during World War II and the horrors of wartime still fresh John Lennon also knew postwar Germany on a personal level having gained immense experience playing to occupation soldiers and German civilians alike on three tours in Hamburg bars during the early ?60s. In fact since Lennon his bandmates in The Beatles and all their German friends spent their formative years in Hamburg his choice of an upscale German car made sense. Delivered new to England of course in right-hand-drive configuration John Lennon?s 230SL was registered GCP 196C there and it was later exported to the United States and registered in California. It was also originally equipped with a 2308cc SOHC inline 6-cylinder engine rated at 170hp with Bosch mechanical fuel injection and automatic transmission making this car one of the earlier vehicles from Mercedes-Benz to be so equipped. Handsome in blue over gray upholstery this 230SL is now offered from long-term museum ownership and comes with documentation that includes a copy of the original U.K. registration bearing John Lennon?s iconic signature a photo of the car sitting in front of John Lennon?s Kenwood home in Weybridge U.K. a photo of Cynthia Lennon with the car a photo of the car at Abbey Road Studios with Ringo in the foreground a photo by Pattie Boyd (George Harrison?s wife) of George Harrison on a motorbike with the 230SL in the foreground and other notable memorabilia. As offered the car has been expertly reviewed and it is confirmed to retain the engine chassis plate transmission and rear differential with numbers matching those of the factory Data Card and it is confirmed as having been delivered new in its Medium Blue exterior color with gray interior a gray soft-top and factory hardtop. Copies from the original logbook documents John Winston Lennon M.B.E. as the vehicle?s owner. The M.B.E. was the Queen?s Honorary Award and it was presented to The Beatles at Buckingham Palace in 1965. The Mercedes is believed to have been sold by Lennon to a private couple in the Newmarket area and then to Mr. Howard Wise. It would then find its way to Peter Jarvis the noted car dealer in Cocoa Beach FL in the mid-1980s. Subsequently the SL was sold to one Mr. Barnett in California who sold the car in 1999 to the current Florida museum owner. Carrying wonderful early provenance remaining faithful to its original specifications and offered from a well-cared-for museum collection the John Lennon 1965 Mercedes-Benz 230SL is a thrilling find and a wonderful piece of automotive and cultural history.
