1970 FORD MUSTANG BOSS 302 RACE CAR

Lot # 790 (Sale Order: 261 of 347)

This 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 competition car is a particularly attractive example with a well-known and interesting history. The subject of a January 2011 feature in the inaugural edition of Auto Enthusiast magazine this original 1970 Mustang Boss 302 is powered by a proper G-Code engine and finished and detailed as a Bud Moore tribute car. Originally finished in Grabber Blue the Boss was acquired by Paul J. Pettey in December 1974. Pettey?s racing career included Trans Am and entries at Sebring and the 24 Hours of Daytona over the 20 years spanning 1968 and 1988. Mr. Pettey modified the car for racing as a back up to his #45 1969 Mustang but it was never used as such by him. Following Mr. Petteys untimely accidental death during the 1990s the Boss was acquired from the estate and in 2005 it was sent to Trans Am specialists Conover Racing and Restorations and converted into a close replica of the fabled original Bud Moore Engineering Boss Mustangs. Completed in 2008 the Boss is now accompanied at with the original Build Sheet receipts track notebooks and the VRA logbook. This is a real Trans Am race car however due to no previous participation in an original Trans Am race this car cannot run with the select Historic Trans Am Group at limited events such as the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion under the present rules. Since 2008 this car has participated in many other vintage race events across the country in the Trans Am Group 6 Class. This car has recently undergone a full nut-and-bolt race prep and is turn-key ready for vintage racing. **SOLD ON BILL OF SALE ONLY**

The HEMI engine delivers its power through a recently rebuilt Turbo 400 automatic transmission. The suspension and drivetrain are completely custom to this Dodge and everything is chrome-plated. In the back a Ford 9 rear end was made square with a custom 4-link setup and is mated to a custom air-ride system. An onboard compressor provides comfort and traction. Born from a 39 Dodge truck this vehicle has undergone meticulous work. The cab and original doors are chopped and mated to the custom seam-welded chassis. The bed was fabricated and a closed gate is embossed with ?Fargo.? Everything is powder-coated or painted in a deep Jet Black and layer after layer of clear was applied to achieve that stunning finish. The front grille is from a 35 Ford truck that has been modified to match the contour of the Dodge. Custom lights in front and 49 Lincoln Zephyr taillights complete the custom look and are all wired via a custom chassis wiring harness. The interior is completely custom from door to dash all wrapped in the finest materials. All stitching was done by hand to produce a high-quality fit and finish. Custom instrumentation completes the interior.
