The Cover has four 8 cent Bicentennial Era Colonial American Craftsmen stamps, postmarked "First Day of Issue" at Williamsburg, VA on July 4, 1972.

1974 AMERICAN REVOLUTION BICENTENNIAL JOHN ADAMS MEDALS SILVER and BRONZE MEDALS in ORIGINAL BOXES

This lot consists of TWO John Adams medals issued by the U. S. Mint for the Bicentennial celebration. The first is a bronze medal housed in the original folding case with certificate. The second is a proof SILVER medal of the same design. It is housed in its original airtite holder and box. The certificate does not specify the silver content, but it weighs just over one ounce.

2 PEWTER "AMERICA'S FIRST MEDALS" SERIES - US MINT 1974 - WASHINGTON & GATES

The Bicentennial series of pewter reproductions of famous historical medals was authorized by Richard Nixon and announced on February 19, 1974. They were produced until July 4, 1976. These pewter medals are 1-1/2" in diameter. In this lot, the winning bidder will receive a WASHINGTON BEFORE BOSTON medal, which was the first medal authorized by the Continental Congress. Originally struck in gold, it was presented to General George Washington for the liberation of Boston from the British in 1776. The second medal is of GENERAL HORATIO GATES, who received this in gold form for his heroic efforts at the Battles of Bennington, Fort Stanwix, and Saratoga in 1777. This set originally sold for $10 by the U.S. Mint. Both come in their original holders and the original mailing box from the San Francisco Mint.

A nice fine example of the Type 2 (flat ground under the bison) nickel. Typical weakly struck obverse and strongly struck reverse.

1913-S TYPE 2 BUFFALO NICKEL - KEY DATE - VERY RARE

Lot # 81 (Sale Order: 81 of 543)

A key in the Buffalo nickel series. The obverses on this year were notorously weakly struck, and the reverses were well struck. That is evident here with the weak date (although more readable than the photo may indicate) and a strong reverse and mint mark. A nice problem-free very good example. (NOTE that the dark mark on the Indian's head is a dark scuff and not a scratch).
