Late 20th Century Plains Rifle, built from U.S. Model 1884 Trapdoor Springfield Rifle, #374709, .45-70 cal., 28'' heavyweight octagonal barrel, blue and case hardened fin...moreish, with shortened Government issue stock. Rifle features 1884 dated breechblock, Lawrence combination rear sight and Rocky Mountain style front sight. German silver forend cap and wedge escutcheons. Nicely accomplished overall. Condition is very good. Barrel is an overall light gun metal gray with scattered dark spotting; other metal surfaces retain approx. 50% blue and darkening case colors. Stock with oil staining, small losses, and light fissures near lockplate screws. Good action, bright bore. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)

Rightside lockplate marked ''C. Sharps' Pat Oct. 5th 1852''; left side of frame additionally marked ''R.S. Lawrence Pat/April 12th 1859''; left side of frame ''C Sharps' Pat/ Sept 12th 1848''. ''EAW'' inspector markings to left side of barrel at breech, saddle ring bar base. Base of forend marked ''TWR''. Rear sight marked ''R.S. Lawrence Patented Feb 15th 1859''. Condition is very good with most all the finish having toned a speckled gray brown. Ignition area near nipple is fine with only very light erosion. Steel saddle ring has been field replaced long ago with a brass example. Stock and forend show scuffs and impressions commensurate with the overall condition of this carbine. The original six-groove rifling is at least fine to excellent. Primer feed device remains intact. This carbine is interesting as it has clearly seen real period use both in and out of the Cavalry scabbard but no real abuse. Est.: $1,800-$2,400. (Antique)

Rear sight marked ''R.S. Lawrence Patented Feb 15th 1859''. Condition is very good with most all the finish having toned gray brown with some light to just moderate general pitting. Fracture at upper tang in area of forward most tang screw. Stock and forend show moderate scuffs and impressions giving one the feeling of possible Native American use. Right side of lockplate marked ''C. Sharps' Pat Oct. 5th 1852''; left side of frame additionally marked ''R.S. Lawrence Pat/April 12th 1859''; left side of frame ''C Sharps' Pat/ Sept 12th 1848''. ''LW'' inspector markings to left side of barrel at breech, saddle ring bar base and at base of forend. Rear sight marked ''R.S. Lawrence Patented Feb 15th 1859''. ''TWR'' and ''DFC'' cartouches to left side of buttstock, no additional markings. Condition is excellent and appearing nearly new, with the exception of mild frosting to the barrel about six inches from the muzzle. Vivid case colors to all case hardened components including the buttplate. Bore is a three-grooved factory relined specimen that shows mirror bright. The presence of the DFC cartouche indicates that this carbine should have the firing pin modified breechblock, yet it retains a very nearly new condition unmodified percussion breechblock with absolutely no corrosion in the nipple area and an intact cap feeder retaining almost all its nitre blue. Mild knackering at bottom edge of buttstock. Est: $3,500-$5,000. (Antique)

Originally shipped June 1, 1873, to Shuyler, Hartley and Graham, with 500 similar rifles in this shipment. It is interesting to note that the net price at that time was $18 per unit. Includes factory letter further stating that Shuyler, Hartley and Graham often acted as jobbers and outfitted many military units in the U.S. and abroad, but especially state militias. Scarce with approx. 1769 mfg'd. Condition is fine. Barrel shows approx. 94% lightly toning blue. Frame has toned and darkened and exhibits a salt and pepper type finish to the left side breechblock housing. Stock with scuffs and scratches from handling but no losses or fractures. Blue finish, checkered walnut buttstock, with simple slide adjustable mid-range tang sight. Condition is fine as modified using components from three separate Maynard rifles to make this ensemble. Receiver is dated 1873 and retains approx. 85% of a later accomplished blue with most of the losses to the lower tang and trigger assembly. Stock with light scratches along comb and several more scattered throughout. Old English leather shotgun case, which probably dates from the 1920s, has been re-purposed to accommodate this shooter's set. Good functioning action, all three barrels appear to be at least fine; .32-20 bore is mirror bright. Condition to case is fair, as carrying handle has become detached. Est.: $1,800-$2,400. (Antique)

Gun appears 100% original with Prince of ...moreWales pistol grip, figured wood, splinter forend, nice checkering, and Colt bakelite buttplate. Mfg'd approx. 1883, near the end of the 1878 production. Condition is near excellent retaining approx. 90% case colors to hammers and sidelocks, approx. 50% to receiver bottom, and much bright blue, with scratches to the triggerguard and bottom of receiver, and a small amount of mottling to the surface of the Damascus barrels, which is common. Wood has numerous small handling marks but checkering shows little wear. Action locks up tight, and bores are bright. A nice original Colt 1878. Est.: $1,800-$2,400. (Antique)

Barrel with two-line ''New Haven, Conn.'' address. Upper tang is marked ''-MODEL 1886-''. Includes factory letter. Mfg'd 1892. Condition is very good. Barrel and magazine tube show approx. 70% blue, with most of the finish loss occurring as thinning and toning to the mag tube and barrel high edgewear. Case hardened surfaces have toned mostly bright with some case coloring visible on the upper and lower tang and trace amounts of muted color on the receiver flats; slightly darker in some protected areas. Buttstock shows evidence of an older re-varnish but fits nice and tight to the adjoining metal surfaces. Lower left edge at the wrist with the initials ''D.I'' scratched into the surface; otherwise, with normal age and wear consistent with the rest of the rifle, the most noticeable being a ding near the top edge of the buttplate. Barrel address, etc. are clear. Crisp action, bright and shiny bore. Est.: $3,000-$4,000. (Antique)

Stock and forend fit very well and exhibit only minor scuffs and light impressions, with one small loss to right side rear portion of forend measuring approx. 3/16''. Top of barrel and frame are Winchester proofed with the barrel appearing to be double stamped. Barrel with two-line ''New Haven, Conn.'' address. Upper tang is stamped ''-MODEL 1886-''. Cody Show search form shows this rifle originally chambered in .40-60 caliber with a round barrel. Mfg'd 1889. Condition is good. Barrel with intermittent spots of remaining blue; frame and receiver with a mostly darkened patina. Magazine tube with a combination reddish brown and dark blue appearance. Barrel address, tang stamp, etc. are clear. Left side of barrel and portions of the magazine tube with some fine cleaned pitting. Buttplate with approx. 25% remaining case colors. Forend with scattered surface dings and scratches. Buttstock has been sanded relatively smooth and left with some shallower dings. Stock with a small reveal at the buttplate edge. Deluxe Rimfire Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle, #186240, .22 cal., 24'' octagonal barrel, blue and case hardened finish, with 2X checkered pistol-grip walnut sto...moreck (marked on tang). Factory letter states shipped Aug. 11, 1885, layer shipped back to the factory and changed from .22 Short to .22 Long, Octagon Barrel, Plain Trigger, Plain Wood, Pistol-Grip Checkered Stock, Case Hardened. Lifter block is still marked .22 Cal. Short. Condition is fine retaining approx. 85% moderately toning blue to barrel and magazine tube. Receiver, lever, hammer and buttplate have toned a silvery gray. Screw slots are straight and true. Stock is excellent with very light impressions left side near comb. Good action, fair bore. A seldom encountered Deluxe variation of the '73 Rimfire rifle. Est.: $7,500-$9,500. (Antique)
