Condition to kit is about fine and still functional; exterior cover with repairs and soiling. (2) Preston Field Ration Mess Kit, consisting of two pans with canteen, with Span-Am style canvas cover marked ''US'' to the front and ''1.st PA Cav'' to reverse. Patent dates 1896. Lot of Two (2) Spanish American War Era Canteens: (1) Variation of the Model 1878 canteen, exterior cover marked ''U.S.M.'' with later 1910 leather hanger with 3'' brass snap hook, as arsenal modified for Cavalry use. Condition is about fine with natural sun bleaching to cover. Markings are clear. (2) Also a variation of the Model 1878 canteen, marked in large letters across the front ''ALA'', with small clear letters at the six o'clock position ''RIA 1914 R'', using the 1903 inverted ''V'' suspension strap, for use with the new type rifle cartridge belt. The same variation was used in the 1914-16 punitive expedition to Mexico. Condition is excellent with toning from age to cover, good stitching, and nice cork. Est.: $350-$500/lot....more

In waxed Johnson split-back leather sheath with plain buttons, Randall football-shaped logo with additional factory ''W'' stamped for ''waxed'', and brass military belt hanger. An original fine grit gray sharpening stone dates this knife to approx. 1971. Condition is fine to near excellent showing sharpening, light field use, and light patination to brass parts. USMC Entrenching Machete, by H. Disston & Sons

U.S. Marine Corps Entrenching Machete, by H. Disston & Sons, 11'' blade, 16-1/2'' overall, in canvas-covered leather reinforced scabbard with blackened brass throat. In continuous use with the USMC from 1918 up through the end of WWII. This early variation probably dates from WWI or the Banana War period. The handle is of one-piece construction, without the later USMC markings to blade. Condition is very good with moderate carbon spotting. Maple handle shows light scuffs, as does leather reinforcement to scabbard. Canvas with minor discoloration from age. Est.: $400-$600....more
