Colt M.1902 Sporting Model SA Pistol

Colt Model 1902 Sporting Model Semi-Automatic Pistol, #4530, .38 ACP cal., 6'' barrel, high polish blue finish, internally numbered matching slide, factory checkered hard rubber grips, with one correct early nickel-plated magazine with 1884 patent date at base. Pistol features early forward plunge mill serrations to slide, high spur hammer, and fire blue small parts. Pistol dates from approx. the summer of 1902. This early transitional Sporting Model pre-dates the addition of the 1902 patent date. Condition is very good retaining approx. 80%-85% original finish, with thinning to straps and flaking to rear most area of slide, with the balance of finish showing thinning at high edges and micro-scratches overall. Grips have toned to mostly brown and show light flattening. Screw slots show no abuse, and internally shows very little use. Est.: $3,000-$4,000....more

Colt Government Model Semi-Automatic Pistol, #C129792, .45 ACP cal., 5'' barrel, blue finish, factory checkered walnut grips, with what appears to be factory checkered trigger, frontstrap and mainspring housing. Delivered to Mr. Bommer at Shoverling, Daly & Gales, New York, NY, shipped Oct. 7, 1921. Although the factory letter makes no mention of the additionally checkered areas, they are accomplished exactly as known examples. Also a special factory order number was used. Condition is about fine retaining approx. 95%+ original factory blue, with thinning and wear at muzzle area of slide, and circumferential scratches from reassembly of slide stop to both frame and slide. Grips show mild flatterning. Action is silky smooth, bore is mirror bright. Possibly an early attempt at a Match grade pistol. Provenance: Harry Sefried, David Tate. Est.: $2,500-$4,000. Scarce Early Transitional Colt Model 1911-A1 Semi-Automatic Pistol, #702135, .45 ACP cal., 5'' barrel, blue finish, checkered walnut grips, one correct magazine, with ''WTG'' inspector's marking in double circle, with one two-tone magazine. Shipped February 13, 1924, in a 1000-gun shipment to the Springfield Armory. This example is one of the earliest 1911-A1 pistols produced, with all features of the A1 pistol but still retaining the ''Model of 1911 U.S. Army'' slide markings. Barrel with intertwined ''HP'' on top of hood, very similar to late WWI pistols as is correct for this model. Condition is excellent retaining approx. 96%+ lightly thinning and toning blue. Pre-War Colt Model 1911-A1 Semi-Automatic Pistol, #730293, .45 ACP cal., 5'' barrel, blue finish, small ring Coltrock checkered brown plastic grips without reinforcing ribs, matching serial numbered slide marked beneath firing pin retainer, with one correct all-blue Colt marked magazine. ''R.S.'' inspection markings beneath slide stop, and ''P'' beneath magazine release. As shipped May 29, 1941, to Springfield Armory. This pistol is somewhat unique in that it is one of the last blued military pistols mfg'd. Colt factory records list #73993 as having been parkerized with regular parkerization not initiated until #734000. (See page 279 of the book ''Colt .45 Service Pistols'', by Charles W. Clawson.)
