Springfield/Bannerman Bolt Action Rifle

Lot # 534 (Sale Order: 534 of 779)

Springfield/Bannerman Bolt Action Rifle, #672842, .30-06 cal., 24'' barrel dated 12-18, blue finish, dual crossbolt, fingergroove walnut M.1903 stock with 1918 dated M.1907 sling. This rifle is made from 1903 bolt and barreled action, uses M.1917 triggerguard, forward barrel band, and Krag rear sight. Bannerman purchased many Krag, Springfield and P-17 parts during the inter-war period. Advertised in the early 1930s American Rifleman magazine, these rifles offered the sportsman a low-cost military rifle alternative. It has now become a unique collector's variation. Many ended up in the hands of Hollywood studios and are often seen in just pre-WWII movies, such as ''Sgt. York'' and ''The Fighting 69th''. Our consignor purchased this rifle directly from a retired Warner Bros. employee. Condition is fine with approx. 85%-90% blue. Stock shows light dings with minor oil darkening near metal surfaces. Action is crisp, bore is bright. Est.: $500-$750. (C&R)...more
