US NAVY MK V PRESENTATION DIVERS KNIFE

US Navy Named Mk V Presentation Divers Knife. Named to CE1 (SCW/DV) Clinton L. Suggs, a Navy Seabee diver who survived the infamous Trans World Airlines Flight 847 hijacking in 1985. Single edged, bright blade with sawback spine. Screw-in brass hilt with wood handle. Single piece brass scabbard with screw-in threads inside throat and black leather strap with buckle. "CE1 (SCW/DV) Clinton L. Suggs RET 1980 - 2000" is etched on the scabbard. Lot also includes the June 24, 1985 edition of Time Magazine, a interview transcript Suggs participated in for the Library of Congress, photographs of his retirement ceremony, and news articles. Clinton L. Suggs joined the Navy in 1980 and became a diver in the Seabees. On June 14th, 1985 while returning from a mission off the coast of Greece Suggs and Robert Stethem, his close friend and diving partner, boarded TWA flight 847 on route to Rome from Athens. Shortly after take-off the plane was hijacked by Lebanese militants who were demanding the release of prisoners held in Israel. Robert Stethem was murdered during this ordeal and Suggs spent the next 16 days in captivity. Upon his release he continued his work as a diver in the Seabeas and served in Desert Storm. Suggs passed away on June 6th, 2017 at his home in South Bend, Indiana. Blade Length: 6 5/8" Total Length: 13" | Condition: Very good. Light wear. | Est. $500-1000
