Silver plated decorated bronze crossguard and knight helmet pommel. Black painted wood grip with silvered cross applied in the center. Chromed steel scabbard with nickel-silver plated fittings and enamel crosses. (1) Flattened Diamond section, double sided, acid etched with gold wash blade. Named to "H. F. Hall". Maker mark on the ricasso read "E.A Armstrong MFG & Co". Silver plated decorated bronze crossguard and knight helmet pommel. Black painted wood grip with silvered cross applied in the center. WWI USS K-4 SUBMARINE OFFICER PRESENTATION SWORD | WWI USS K-4 Submarine, Named Officer Presentation sword. US Navy M1852 Naval Officer Dress Sword. Acid etched straight blade with fuller with custom dedication to "Meares B. Cartmell, From the Crew of U.S.S.K.4, June 15, 1918". Maker mark "Waite's Store, Key West, FLA" acid etched on the ricasso. Leather buffer present. Gilded brass hilt, shark-skin covered grip with twisted wire. Leather covered steel scabbard with custom engraved brass fittings. Yellow cord. The USS K-4 (SS-35) was a K-class submarine built for the United States Navy during the 1910s. The sub was commissioned on 24 October 1914 joining the Pacific Torpedo Flotilla. K-4 operated along the coast of California, conducting constant exercises and experiments to develop the techniques of submarine warfare. From 14 October 1915 to 31 October 1917, she carried out similar operations in the Hawaiian Islands. When the United States' involvement in World War I called for increased naval activity, K-4 departed Hawaii for service out of Key West, Florida, arriving 9 January 1918. For the rest of the war, she remained at Key West, where she patrolled the Florida peninsula. K-4 decommissioned there 10 May 1923, and was sold as scrap on 3 June 1931.
