CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE POW NAMED SOLDIER'S ARCHIVE | Civil War Confederate Soldier's Archive named to Corporal John David Cay, Liberty Independent Troop. Troop “G”, 5th Georgia Cavalry Regiment, Anderson-Robertson Brigade, Wheeler Corps. Corporal Cay participated in many battles including the Battle of Atlanta. Later, in December 1864 Cay was captured by the Union Army shortly after the fall of Savannah, and was a Prisoner of War (POW) at Point Lookout until July 1865. This detailed and comprehensive archive includes: Personal diary of “Cay” and his accounts of his daily life as a POW. Dated December 14th, 1864 through February 10th, 1865; Civil War era 1857 ¼ quarter dollar gold coin carried as POW. Multiple transcription copies of the diary. Troop “G” roster. Veterans of the Civil War reunion uniform and reunion Confederate Battle flag. Flag is multi piece construction, of linen material, with some stains and holes, size: 33” x 63. Wooden prison / POW carved items, including knife and fork, a boot, basket, and a small book. Veterans of the Civil War reunion badges ranging from 1896-1913. Several portraits of J.D. Cay and family. Civil War era Straight Razor with sharpening blocks. History of the Liberty Independent Troop during the Civil War. Personal correspondents of Cay and family members. Corporal John David Clay served as a corporal in the Confederate Army, fighting in multiple battles. He was captured and became a prisoner of war at Point Lookout. After surviving the prison camp Cay returned home, and set up roots in Tallahassee, Florida. He became a general contractor and started a lumber yard, bringing a measure of prosperity to his family. His family name became well-known in the area as his brothers, Colonel Raymond Cay and Honorable C.A. Cay, were both active in government and military roles in Florida. J.D. WWII 486th AAA BATTALION UNIFORM NAMED GROUPING | WWII US Army 486th Armored Anti-Aircraft Batallion, 3rd Armored Division archive of Colonel 'Raymond E. Dunnington". Colonel Dunnington served as the Battalion Commander of the 486th AAA Battalion who was operational in more than 70 direct air attacks. His Battalion quickly earned the nickname "Anti- Anything" as they proved to be effective against enemy ground troops, tanks, armored cars, railway trains, and pill-boxes. The 486th was the first Allied anti-aircraft unit to enter Germany in World War II, and the first to shoot down an enemy aircraft from German soil. His awards include a Bronze Star and Purple Heart and the Belgium Forraquere. Grouping includes: (1) OD, Dark, Officers service coat with the 3rd Armored Division patch on the right shoulder and the 5th Army patch on the left. Full Bird Colonel rank, two coastal artillery battery arms insignia on the service coat. Chaplain Betzold counseled many soldiers throughout his career and eventually was on the staff of the Surgeon General from 1963 to 1970, Chaplain Betzold was instrumental in the introduction and establishment of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) for Army chaplains. Staff Sergeant Clapp served in the Vietnam War in the 25th Infantry Division, 4th Cavalry Regiment as a Armor Crewman/ Loader on a M-551 Sheridan Light Tank.
