US ARMY REGULATIONS BOOK SIGNED BY GEN. GC STRONG | 1861 Revised Regulation for the Army of the United States. Cover page is hand-signed by Union Brigadier General George Crockett Strong, an 1857 West Point Graduate having been assigned to numerous duty stations prior to the Civil War. At the start of the Civil War, Strong was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and assigned to the staff of General McDowell where he took part in the First Battle of Bull Run. Following service under McDowell, Strong served as the Chief of Staff to Major General Benjamin Butler at New Orleans, Louisiana and in April 1862 he led an assault against Biloxi, Mississippi, before going on to lead an assault against Ponchatoula, Louisiana. In November 1862 he was promoted to brigadier general of volunteers and assigned to the Department of the South under Major General Quincy A. Gillmore. On July 18, 1863 he commanded the brigade that included the all-Black 54th Massachusetts Infantry during its heralded and unsuccessful assault of Fort Wagner, South Carolina at the Second Battle of Fort Wagner. Strong was critically wounded in this battle and evacuated to New York City, New York. In New York, his condition worsened and he ultimately died of tetanus at the age of 30, 12 days after the battle. Written to his cousin at home describing his personal accounts of the war, accounts of daily life as a soldier, and includes personal thoughts on the Battle of Atlanta (in which has did not take part but has knowledge of). He highlights the mistreatment of Georgia citizens by General Sherman's Union Army, the Fall of Atlanta, and desertion of soldiers afterwards. He goes on to describe personal encounters, the inability of the Confederate Army to feed their soldiers, a naval blockade, and his hopes to defeat Sherman's Army. WWI BRITISH RAF GENERAL FAREWELL SIGNED DIAGRAM | Hand signed seating diagram from WWI British RAF Brigadier General Norman Duckworth Kerr MacEwen's farewell dinner at the Savoy Hotel. Drawn on the table is a depiction of a plane taking the flight route he flew to India. Some identified names signed are WG Commander F.H. Kirby, Major General F.C. Heath Caldwell, Commander W.D. Budgen, Brigadier General W.B. Cadell, Brigadier General C.F. De. S. Murphy, Air Chief Marshal Sir Wilfrid Freeman, and Major A.C.S. MacLaren. Brigadier General N.D.K. MacEwen was commissioned in 1901 into the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Light Infantry Company. After seeing action in South Africa, MacEwen joined the Royal Flying Corps during WWI and ranked his way up to Lieutenant Colonel. He was appointed Deputy Assistant Director of Aeronautics. After WWI he was stationed in Afghanistan, and was part of the first through flight from Great Britain to Egypt. MacEwen arrived in Cairo on 1 January 1919, traveling from there on to Afghanistan. The illustration on the table depicts this historic flight. MacEwen later served as the Commanding Officer for the RAF in India and finished his career after WWII as an Air Vice Marshall.
