WWI GERMAN LUFTWAFFE FRANZ WALZ MEDAL GROUPING

WWI German Luftwaffe Medal Grouping. Attributed to Generalleutnant (then Hauptmann) Franz Walz, an Imperial German Air Service pilot responsible for seven aerial victories in WWI. (1) Ottoman Air Force Pilot's Badge. No visible marks. (1) Ottoman Gallipoli Star. Maker marked by BB & Co. (1) Imperial German Pilot's Badge. Maker marked by Carl Poellath. (1) Iron Cross 1st Class. No visible stamps. (1) Iron Cross 2nd Class. (1) Saxon Friedrich August Medal. (1) Honor Cross with Swords. Maker marked by G & S on the reverse. Includes presentation case attributed to Walz and research documents. Franz Walz was born in Bavaria on December 4, 1885. He competed in multiple flying competitions before becoming one of the early pilots of the Imperial German Air Service in WWI. He became one of Germany's few two-seater ace pilots and would serve as Oberleutnant and Hauptmann in both the Western and Middle East fronts during the war. He became known as "The Eagle of Jericho" during his campaigns in the middle east and was awarded the Silver Liakat Medal by the Ottoman Empire. Walz would serve in over 500 sorties before he was captured by British Forces. After returning to Germany and serving in the Reichswehr, Walz joined the Luftwaffe in WWII and was promoted to the rank of Generalleutnant. Walz was captured by Soviet forces and died as a prisoner of war on December 18, 1945 in Breslau, Silesia.

WWII US Army Air Forces 398th Bomb Group, 603rd Bomb Squad Purple Heart KIA Grouping. Named to Turret Gunner Sergeant Leo E Parr Jr., 18131885. (1) Purple Heart. Named to Sergeant Parr. (1) Air Medal with Oak Leaf. Unnamed. (1) 398th Bomb Group Photo. Size: 8 1/2" x 11". (1) Studio Photo. Size" 7 3/4" x 5 1/4". Includes newspaper clipping, research documents, declassified document reprints and more. Leo E. Parr Jr. born on April 18, 1924 and grew up in Enid, Oklahoma. He would serve in the 8th Air Force as a Turret Gunner on B-17 43-37825 J, 398th Bomb Group, 603rd Bomb Squad. His plane was shot down and exploded on impact over Osnabruck, Germany, where he died on March 14, 1945. Sergeant Leo E. Parr Jr is buried at the Cavalry Catholic Cemetery in Enid, Oklahoma.
