1950 Morris MM 2-door Saloon (Lowlight)

Lot # 551 (Sale Order: 51 of 89)

Mid-production MM Lowlight that appears to be pleasingly original.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • 289,002 examples of the MM were produced between 1948 and 1953, 64% were Lowlights
  • Powered by the old 918cc side-valve from the Morris 8. 29.5bhp and 59mph!
  • Finished in Maroon with what could be the original trim (Beige piped in Maroon which is correct for this year)
  • Fitted with electric indicators at some point
  • We understand that the indicated mileage on 02/05/2017 was 1,965
  • Vic Derrington Ltd marketed an OHV Alta head for the MM and when combined with bigger valves, and better manifolds and exhaust produced 55bhp enabling a top speed of 94mph!

1976 Triumph 2500 S Estate

Lot # 552 (Sale Order: 52 of 89)

With the arrival of the twin-carburettor 2500S, Triumph's stylish executive saloon finally had the performance and reliability it deserved.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • Final development of the Triumph 2000 theme, displacing the fuel-injected 2.5PI
  • The 2500S was an uprated version of the 2500TV, with 106bhp and a 105mph top speed
  • Overdrive, power-assisted steering, stiffer suspension and Stag-type 14ins alloy wheels were all standard
  • Only in production for two years, very few estates made and consequently now rare

1954 Triumph TR2 'Long Door'

Lot # 553 (Sale Order: 53 of 89)

The first in a generation of game-changing, small Triumph Roadsters.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • Until October 1954, the first 4,000 TR2s were produced with 'long door' body shells and were lighter and more agile than later cars
  • Powered by a notably torquey twin-carb version of the 2-litre Vanguard OHV engine which produced 90bhp and, fitted with the four-speed gearbox, could propel the little car to 60mph in 11.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 107mph
  • Owned and restored as an ongoing project by an engineer, Mr Peter Vickery-Jones from 1974 until 2012
  • Very nicely presented in Old English White with a smart black interior
  • Early (1954) TR2s were successful in International Motorsport and these rare 'long-door' cars are the preferred choice in modern Historic motorsport

1951 Austin A40 Woodie

Lot # 557 (Sale Order: 57 of 89)

Probably based on an A40 Devon Countryman or Pickup with 'home-crafted' woodwork. A great Winter project.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • The cheeky little A40 was Austin's replacement for the evergreen Seven and the first all-new model to arrive in the aftermath of World War 2
  • Despite the traditional separate chassis build method, the new A40 had modern styling influenced by contemporary American cars, independent front suspension and the first application of a new engine
  • The overhead-valve unit, that would become known around the world as the B-series, displaced 1.2-litres in the A40 and developed some 40bhp delivered to the rear wheels via a floor-mounted four-speed gearbox
  • Not taxed since 1960

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

1953 Austin A40 Somerset Saloon

Lot # 559 (Sale Order: 59 of 89)

Austin's infatuation with 'Transatlantic' styling is evident in the new Somerset which appeared in 1952.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • In production between 1952 and 1954, the Somerset replaced the Austin A40 Devon
  • Resembling the larger A70 Hereford, its design was aimed at improving export sales, particularly to America
  • It shared a number of components with the Devon including a similar 1.2-litre 4-cylinder engine
  • The Somerset's engine was uprated to produce 42bhp giving the car a top speed of 70mph
  • This Gloss Black example appears to sit quite well but is in need of some TLC

1946 Standard Flying Eight Tourer

Lot # 560 (Sale Order: 60 of 89)

Charismatic little Thirties-designed, four-seat Tourer in decent condition.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • Technically these post-War models are not termed 'Flying' Standards as the name was dropped for these derivatives. However, as the design is pre-war we have left 'Flying' in the title to distinguish it from 1950's examples
  • In cream over chocolate with a newish soft top. Factory rebuilt engine stamped 29/06/1955
  • History file
  • Only appears to need a light recommission before returning to the road
  • With its cute 'Noddy Car' looks, there would almost certainly be TV opportunities for this smart little classic

1937 Standard Flying 9

Lot # 568 (Sale Order: 68 of 89)

The "Flying" in the name came from the badge design and not, as you can imagine, from the performance of the 23bhp four-seater.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • Stylish little 1131cc side-valve family car produced by the Standard Motor Company between 1937 and 1940
  • The Nine had a side-valve engine with single Zenith carburettor, aluminium heads and thermosyphon cooling, coupled to a four-speed gearbox and with Bendix brakes
  • This example is in need of some restoration but otherwise looks quite cheerful
  • There is an active Owner's Club for the 'Flying' cars and parts are available
  • History File

1955 Citroen Traction Avant Light 15

Lot # 569 (Sale Order: 69 of 89)

Iconic French automobile, always associated with the great French detective Jules Maigret from the Paris Brigade Criminelle.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • The Traction Avant, (Forward Traction) was designed by André Lefèbvre and Flaminio Bertoni in late 1933
  • It was the world's first front-wheel-drive steel monocoque production car
  • This French-built, left-hand drive, 11L is powered by a 57bhp 1911cc 4-cylinder with a 3-speed gearbox
  • UK registered. The original French number plates are in the boot
  • We understand that on 17/10/2017 the odometer indicated 77,135km
  • Little history, bar old tax disc dated 2009 and a bill for £2500+ in 2008

You can now book a one to one appointment (up to one hour) to view this lot at our central location between 11th and 17th September. Please contact Gary Dunne on 07740 946 796 / gary@classiccarauctions.co.uk to secure your appointment or to discuss the car in more detail.

1959 Standard Ten Companion

Lot # 570 (Sale Order: 70 of 89)

Finished in Coffee and Cream, this is an older restoration that still presents really well.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • In 1954 the Ten was introduced as a more powerful, better-appointed version of the Standard Eight, with the Eight's Standard SC engine increased in size to 948cc (37bhp) and sharing a similar chassis and gearbox
  • The estate version, the Companion, arrived in 1955 and was unique in having a bespoke bodyshell with four doors unlike its competitors who utilised their two-door vans for this purpose fitting windows and rear seats
  • Four-up with the dog in the back, it was good for 69mph and 0-60 in 38.3 seconds which was probably okay at the time
  • We understand from our vendor that this vehicle has been fully restored and it certainly looks that way, remaining very smart in Coffee and White with a red interior. The indicated mileage on 22/05/2017 was 74,693
  • Accompanied by a History File and the original Buff Logbook

You can now book a one to one appointment (up to one hour) to view this lot at our central location between 11th and 17th September. Please contact Richard Greenhalgh on 07948 152 921 / richard@classiccarauctions.co.uk to secure your appointment or to discuss the car in more detail.

1970 Triumph Herald 13/60 Estate

Lot # 571 (Sale Order: 71 of 89)

The 13/60 Herald was the ultimate iteration of the little Triumph saloon and probably the best of the lot.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • With the arrival of the 13/60, power output was a handy 62bhp, the gearbox had overdrive and the handling problems of the earlier cars had been largely ironed out
  • The Herald's turning circle, at 25ft, was the smallest of any production car
  • Finished in Damson and from a distance looks quite smart. Decent interior, presumably retrimmed
  • The indicated mileage of 11,132 is obviously not warranted but cars from private collections are frequently selected initially because of their low mileage
  • Few MOTs, nice interior, solid-looking car

You can now book a one to one appointment (up to one hour) to view this lot at our central location between 11th and 17th September. Please contact Gary Dunne on 07740 946 796 / gary@classiccarauctions.co.uk to secure your appointment or to discuss the car in more detail.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • Initially registered on the 07/09/1973 to the first of five former keepers
  • Just 1,711 T1 Saloons were built compared to 16,721 Silver Shadows
  • Finished in an elegant shade of Larch Green with a tan leather interior
  • The car requires cosmetic attention as well as general mechanical recommissioning
  • A good base for restoration the odometer shows a reading of some 86,223 miles (atoc)

1964 Jensen C-V8 MkII

Lot # 573 (Sale Order: 73 of 89)

This splendid example of the 6.3-litre, 330bhp MkII was, in fact, the 1964 Earls Court Motor Show car.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • This was the last of the Jensen Bros/Eric Neale designed production cars but the chassis/Chrysler V8 6.3-litre engine was the basis for the Touring of Turin designed Interceptor
  • According to the Jensen Owners Club C-V8 Registrar, EBW 111B was the actual car exhibited on the Jensen stand at the 1964 Earls Court Show
  • This superb example has recently spent some time at the British Motor Museum at Gaydon

You can now book a one to one appointment (up to one hour) to view this lot at our central location between 11th and 17th September. Please contact Nick Bicknell on 07957 279 000 / nickb@classiccarauctions.co.uk to secure your appointment or to discuss the car in more detail.

1967 Fiat 500 Giardiniera Estate (Type 120)

Lot # 574 (Sale Order: 74 of 89)

The Station Wagon version of the iconic Nuova 500 incorporating some innovative engineering solutions.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • Based on the standard version of the Fiat 500, the Giardiniera benefited from front quarter lights, winding windows in the doors and sliding windows at the rear
  • It retained its suicide doors throughout production even when the later saloon cars were built with front-hinged doors
  • The sunroof folded back three-quarters of the roof length, providing ample opportunity for all passengers to enjoy both fresh air and exposure to the elements
  • To provide the Giardiniera with a useful flat-loading platform, the 499.5cc engine was turned on its side and laid under the rear floor
  • Engine cooling relied on air collected from grilles on the body sides, which were mounted as high as possible to reduce road dust being drawn into the engine compartment and to keep engine noise down
  • It was produced in Fiat's plant in Turin, Mirafiori until production was shifted to the Autobianchi's factory in Desio in the province of Milan until end of production in 1977
  • We understand that the Fiat's indicated mileage on 23/05/2017 was 61,110. History file with the car

1966 Vanden Plas Princess 1100

Lot # 575 (Sale Order: 75 of 89)

Keen to capitalise on the demand for luxury small cars, BMC wasted no time in producing a Vanden Plas version of its popular 1100.

In recent years this car has formed part of a large collection and as such has received little or no use and an element of recommissioning is to be expected to return it to the road once again. Your inspection pre-sale is welcomed and encouraged to appreciate the potential of this rarely offered motor car which is strictly sold as seen.

  • The Princess 1100's creation, however, was down to Fred Connolly, owner of the famous leather company of the same name who requested that an ADO16 1100 be given the full luxury treatment for his own personal use. When BMC management saw the result, they were so impressed, they made their own version
  • The interior was fitted with a full-width Walnut-veneered facia with recessed instruments, Walnut door cappings and picnic tables fitted to the rear of each front seat. West of England cloth was used for the roof lining, best Wilton carpet covered the floor and Connolly leather was used for all seat wearing surfaces. Each front seat was fitted with an individual folding armrest and a central armrest was fitted to the rear bench. Reading lights were fitted to each rear quarter panel. Extra sound deadening was used to further damp external noise
  • We understand that the indicated mileage as of 02/05/2017 was 25,033 and it remained with its first owner until 1996
  • From the photographs, this example looks rather smart and is finished in Sherwood Green with the correct Ochre coach line and a Champagne Beige leather interior
