Colt SAA, Gen. 1, U.S. "Artillery" Model, Cal. .45LC Revolver

SERIAL: 82732 (frame) DESIGN: Single Action Colt Army. First generation firearm that was returned to Colt and Springfield Armory during the Philippine Insurrection where ...morethey were refurbished and had their barrels shortened to 5-1/2". They were reissued to U.S. troops because the caliber .38lc revolvers then in use were found to be inefficient in tactical situations. Most of these "Artillery" models have mixed numbers because the government found that they could save money if they disregarded matching the numbers. This firearm has a frame marked "DFC" with the serial number 82732. Trigger guard is numbered 116380. Bottom of barrel carries the "P" government proof as well as the initials "DFC". Action functions. Patent dates of '71, '72, and '75 and "U.S." are worn but legible. Appears to be a serviceable black powder cartridge Colt. Caliber .45 Long Colt.  CONDITION: Good. Worn walnut grips with no visible cartouches. Back strap number appears to have been worn off. PROVENANCE: From the Estate of Stephen R. The Victory Smiths are identified by the presen...morece of the letter "V" on the butt to the left of the lanyard ring. This double action, swing-out cylinder 6-shot revolver has a 5" barrel and accepts .38 S&W cartridges. The parkerized finish is still mostly present and apparently the revolver was given a coat of black paint, likely at an arsenal. Most of it has been removed without affecting the original parkerizing. This example at one time was in India (part of the British Commonwealth at the time) as it is marked on the barrel "R.F.I." for Royal Factory Ishapore. Below that marking is the date 1967.  CONDITION: Fair.  Functional. Original military wooden grips showing wear still on the revolver.
