Historic JFK and MLK Assassination Collection

Lot # 1001 (Sale Order: 2 of 593)

Historic JFK and MLK Assassination Findings by Ballistics Expert Monty Lutz This extensive lot contains the personal notes, photographs, and reports of Monty Lutz who was...more the firearm and ballistic expert that testified before the United States House of Representatives Select Committee on Assassinations in 1978. Lutz’s report verified the conclusion of the 1964 Warren Report that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone using a 6.5 mm bolt-action Carcano carbine in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 23, 1963. During his more than 40-year illustrious career, Lutz worked as the expert on many firearms-related cases for the military and the government including John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., James Oswald, the Mai Lai massacre, the Larencia Bembenek murder trial (as told in the movie Run Bambi Run), and many more. John F. Kennedy Assassination Included are six bound volumes of Lutz’s personal notes, photographs, VHS tapes of the House Select Committee proceedings, supporting materials, and a bolt action Carcano carbine with scope that was used in the 1986 movie, On Trial: Lee Harvey Oswald in which Lutz played himself. Martin Luther King, Jr. Assassination Two bound volumes from Lutz’s November 1978 testimony of his findings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination in 1968 are included. There are also test bullets fired from the Remington Model 760 Gamemaster rifle that killed Dr. King. Other items include: JFK exact configuration rifle (with the Queen’s seal) which was used in the movie On Trial: Lee Harvey Oswald, Lutz’ list of qualifications, a plaque from the House Select Committee, over 12 VHS tapes of Lutz testifying before the House Select Committee hearings, personal notes from House Select Committee hearings on JFK and MLK assassinations, the flag flown over the capital for Mr. Lutz, a crystal image of the nationwide newspaper image of Lutz holding the JFK gun, and a DVD of the movie On Trial: Lee Harvey Oswald which starred Lutz, Vincent Bugliosi, and Gerry Spence. Early Lutz history items include: Army 3rd armored division patches from when he was in charge of guarding Gen. Abrams family, shooting medals, 1st place shooting trophy, Hawaiian Armed Services Police (HASP) patches and armband, assorted news clippings including a magazine article about Lutz training foreign students in ballistics at the Army Crime Lab, short video footage of JFK in Hawaii limo wearing a lei, an original copy of the message that was sent to the US military announcing JFK assassination and a photo of the actual teletype machine that received that message, magazines with Lutz’ publications, Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID) identification, CID badges, Association of Firearm and Tool Mark Examiner (AFTE) 7th President plaques, official Disney CID Mickey Mouse patch and challenge coin from the US Army Criminal Investigation Laboratory. The intriguing stories about Lutz’ life go on and on. There are plaques and seminar brochures from the Milwaukee Medical College for Lutz’ work training ER doctors how to disarm and remove bullets from injured people without destroying evidence, and paperwork referring to Lutz’ development of x-ray determination of bullet caliber when a bullet was too dangerous to remove from the body. The desk where Mr. Lutz worked in Hawaii was shown in the 1965 John Wayne movie, In Harm’s Way. It appears at the point in the movie where Kirk Douglas was thrown in the brig. While running a crime lab in Ft. Gordon, Georgia, Lutz worked with Sionics Cobray and Michell L. WerBel on the silencer for the Mac10 machine gun formerly known as the Ingram model 11. He worked with the CIA to help take down Castro in the 1970s. He also worked with Harley Davidson on serial number restoration that helped bring down the Hell’s Angels in Milwaukee. Several plaques recognize his work as Safety Advisor for the Shot Show for over 25 years. Auctioneer Randy Donley says, “With the 60th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination upon us, this is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a collection of this magnitude. This collection has only been viewed by a handful of people and has never been for sale. After Mr. Lutz’s passing last year, his daughter approached us about handling the sale of her father's estate. She wants to see it go to a collector or institution that appreciates its importance.” Donley continues, “The size of the collection is impressive. Monty Lutz served in the U.S. Army Military Police and C.I.D. for 20 years and all of those items are there in addition to the Kennedy and King items. It is quite a treasure trove.” Lutz’ daughter Vicky Lutz who lived the history will be happy to share other information, stories, or clarifications on any of the items. VERY RARE!! Roth Sauer 1905 7.65X13 Pistol (C)A827

Lot # 1019 (Sale Order: 13 of 593)

VERY RARE!! (Less than 3000 made) Roth Sauer 7.65X13 Pistol. An extremely rare and nearly impossible to find , Roth-Sauer Semi Automatic Pistol. This pistol was manufactu...morered in 1905 and is the predecessor of the 1907 Roth-Steyr Pistol. This series of pistols was designed by Hungarian Karel Krnka and his financial partner Georg Roth. This model was put into production by J.P. Sauer & Sohn of Suhl, Germany, hence the name Roth-Sauer. The Pistol is chambered in the 7.65 Roth-Sauer Cartridge, which is a slightly shortened .32 auto. These pistols are elaborately designed and built, certainly over-engineered and overly complex for their purpose. They did enjoy some commercial success, as they were in use during WW1 and were also used by German Police agencies, including the Colonial Police Force of German South-West Africa. If you collect the very early Semi-Auto Pistols, this is one of the most desirable to own . An impressive work of early 20th century industrial art and engineering. C&R Eligible S/N:A827
