Match ball from the first Cosmos NASL home game played at the Giants Stadium on 17th April 1977 v Rochester Lancers, THE BALL SIGNED BY THE TWO COSMOS GOALSCORERS FROM THE MATCH PELE & GIORGIO CHINAGLIA, a French manufactured Adidas Official NASL soccer ball bearing the facsimile signature of Commissioner Phil Woosnam, the pentagon panels with white outlined red stars on a blue background, in addition to the signatures the ball bears the match identification in the hand of the Cosmos equipment manager Charles Martinelli, housed in a Lucite display box Cosmos and the Lancers were the great local Derby rivals in the NASL and the two teams christened the new home of the Cosmos at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. In 1977 the prefix ''New York'' was dropped from the club name, before making a return in 1979. In an exciting match Pele and Giorgio Chinaglia scored during the Cosmos 2-0 win. Pele hat-trick match ball from the Cosmos v Fort Lauderdale Strikers match at Giants Stadium 15th May 1977 widely regarded to have been Pele's defining personal performance during his 2 1/2 years at the NASL Club, THE BALL SIGNED BY PELE AND TEAM-MATES FRANZ BECKENBAUER & GIORGIO CHINAGLIA, a French manufactured Adidas Official NASL soccer ball bearing the facsimile signature of Commissioner Phil Woosnam, the pentagon panels with white outlined red stars on a blue background, housed in a Lucite display box For aficionados who followed Pele's career in detail at Cosmos, the Brazilian's performance in the Strikers match lives long in the memory. He performed at an extraordinary high level of energy and sheer class and propelled his team-mates to their own high levels of performance simultaneously. In this match Pele scored tormented the opposition defence with an awesome display and scored all three goals in the Cosmos 3-0 victory before a full house at the Giants Stadium. Franz Beckenbauer's Cosmos No.6 playing kit worn in the NASL Eastern Division Conference Championship (1st Leg) v Rochester Lancers, New York, at the Holleder Memorial Stadium 21th August 1977, a green & white trimmed Cosmos jersey number 6 on the front, right sleeve & back, the reverse also lettered BECKENBAUER; and a pair of white No.6 shorts; sold together with the official ''Kick'' programme for the return leg at the Giants Stadium 24th August(3) Over the two legs Cosmos defeated the Lancers 6-2 on aggregate. In the 1st Leg Cosmos won the match 2-1 through goals by Steve Hunt & Giorgio Chinaglia. In the 2nd Leg at the Giants Stadium the Cosmos won 4-1 with goals by Georgio Chinaglia (2), Pele & Vito Dimitrijevic. Cosmos went onto play and beat the Seattle Sounders in the '77 Soccer Bowl. The full playing kit worn by Pele in his final competitive career football match in the NASL Championship Soccer Bowl for Cosmos v Seattle Sounders at the Civic Stadium, Portland, Oregon, 28th August 1977, comprising: a green and white trimmed Cosmos short-sleeved jersey numbered 10 to the chest, right-sleeve and back, additionally lettered to the reverse PELE; together with a pair of white No.10 shorts, and a pair of green socks (4) Pele's final match resulted in him winning a Championship Ring. Cosmos defeated the Sounders 2-1 making it a bitter sweet day for his army or adoring fans. Charles Martinelli, the team's equipment manager, recalls Pele being in an uncharacteristically sober and quiet mood prior to the game, keeping himself to himself clearly in contemplation of his professional soccer curtain call. He also recalls the determination of Pele's team-mates to ensure that the 'Black Pearl' would go out on a high - and so it was to prove. In the 2-1 victory the Cosmos goals were scored by Englishman Steve Hunt and Italian favourite Giorgio Chinaglia. In between the former Chelsea player Tommy Ord had equalised for the Sounders. Giorgio Chinaglia full Cosmos playing kit worn in the NASL Championship Soccer Bowl v Seattle Sounders at the Civic Stadium, Portland, Oregon, 28th August 1977, comprising a green short-sleeved jersey numbered 9 to the front the right sleeve and the back, the reverse also lettered CHINAGLIA, a pair of white No.9 shorts and a pair of green socks (4) New York Cosmos centre-forward Giorgio Chinaglia scored the winning goal when the Cosmos won the '77 Soccer Bowl defeating Seattle Sounders 2-1. Chinaglia was born in Italy but grew up in south Wales and began his youth career at Swansea.Town before playing in Italian football until 1976, latterly at Lazio. He then joined Cosmos where he was spectacularly successful scoring 193 goals in 213 games and winning four Championship Rings in 1977, 1978, 1980 & 1982. In 2014 the franchise retired the Cosmos No.9 jersey. Charles Martinelli confirms that this shirt was worn in the first half. The rest of the kit was worn for the whole game. The match was between his final club New York Cosmos and the Brazilian club where he first made his name FC Santos. Pele played the first-half for the Cosmos and the second-half for his beloved Santos F.C. of Brazil. Pele only played for these two clubs during his illustrious career.
