The match ball from the Franz Beckenbauer Day Cosmos v. Seattle Sounders played at the Giants Stadium, New Jersey, 21st May 1978, THE BALL SIGNED BY BECKENBAUER and with a personalised dedication to Charles Martinelli, a French manufactured Adidas Official NASL soccer ball bearing the facsimile signature of Commissioner Phil Woosnam, the pentagon panels with white outlined red stars on a blue background, in addition to the signatures the ball bears the match identification in the hand of the Cosmos equipment manager Charles Martinelli, housed in a Lucite display box On May 21, 1978 the Cosmos paid tribute to Franz Beckenbauer, the legendary German player who had been with the team just shy of one year. On ''Franz Beckenbauer Day'' at the Giants Stadium, Cosmos beat the Seattle Sounders 5-1 before a crowd of 71,219. The scorers were Giorgio Chinaglia (3), Vladislay Bogicevic & Dennis Tueart. The German Fischer Choir performed and several dignitaries attended. But perhaps the highlight was when Pele came out, spoke a few words about his friend and former teammate and warmly embraced ''The Kaiser.'' Provenance: The Charles Martinelli Collection. The 1978 NASL Soccer Bowl Championship Ring awarded to the New York Cosmos equipment manager Charles Martinelli, 10k gold set with a diamond by Balfour, inscribed COSMOS, NASL CHAMPIONS, COSMOS STAFF, SOCCER BOWL 78, AUGUST 27 1978, in original box of issue bearing the Cosmos logo and with a typescript paper label reading CHARLES MARTINELLI, 8 1/2 In 1978 Cosmos retained their NASL Championship title by beating Tampa Bay Rowdies 3-1 in the Soccer Bowl. The match was played at the Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey. The MVP was the former Sunderland and Manchester City player Dennis Tueart who scored two of the goals, the other being netted by Cosmos stalwart Giorgio Chinaglia. The Rowdies were without their star player Rodney Marsh, sidelined through an infected leg injury. Provenance: The Charles Martinelli Collection. Former Equipment Manager of the New York Cosmos.

He made 92 international appearances. The match ended as a 2-2 draw, with Rivelino scoring one of the All Stars goals. Provenance: The Charles Martinelli Collection. Johan Cruyff Cosmos No.30 jersey from the UNICEF game v World All Stars played at the Giants Stadium 30th August 1978, white long-sleeved No.30 jersey with green & gold trim, and three gold stars representing the Cosmos three NASL Championship titles, the last of which was achieved three days before the UNICEF game, numbered 30 to the right sleeve and the back, the reverse also lettered CRUYFF The Dutch master Johan Cruyff had been rumoured to join the Cosmos but it never materialised. However, he played a few exhibition games for the New York team including this appearance in the 1978 UNICEF match, which ended as a 2-2 draw. The following year Cruyff did make a move to the NASL playing a season for the Los Angeles Aztecs, before transferring to the Washington Diplomats. Provenance: The Charles Martinelli Collection. Dirceu World All Stars No.21 jersey from the UNICEF game v Cosmos at the Giants Stadium 30th August 1978, blue long-sleeved jersey with white trim, with soccer ball design badge inscribed WORLD ALL STARS, the right sleeve and back numbered 21, and lettered DIRCEU; sold with Dirceu's light blue World All Stars No.21 long-sleeved training jersey, the reverse numbering in an interesting and unusual font (2) Dirceu was a Vasco da Gama player when selected for the World All Stars team. The attacking midfielder played in the 1974, 1978 & 1982 World Cups for Brazil and was capped 44 times altogether. Alberto Tarantini match-worn Argentina blue & white striped No.3 jersey from the Game v the New York Cosmos 6th June 1979, short-sleeved; sold together with an official match pennant for the Cosmos v Argentina national team (2) Argentina fielded the team who had won the 1978 FIFA World Cup with the sole exception of Mario Kempes who had club commitments with Valencia in Spain. His place was taken by an exciting teenage prospect named Diego Maradona. The World Champions defeated their American hosts 1-0 through a goal by World Cup winning captain Daniel Passarella. The former Boca Juniors World Cup winning left-back Alberto Tarantini had just finished a stormy one season spell at Birmingham City in England which culminated with him punching a heckling spectator. He was capped 61 times for Argentina and also played at the 1982 World Cup. Provenance: The Charles Martinelli Collection. Former Equipment Manager of the New York Cosmos.
