Pair Of Unmarked French Or Belgian Percussion Pistols With Gold Decoration On Barrels

Lot # 102 (Sale Order: 101 of 931)      

.50 caliber browned and smoothbore 4 1/16-inch octagon barrels, each breech with two gold bands and floral motif. Case-hardened locks and mountings to checkered varnished walnut half-stocks. Steel ramrods.
Condition: Very good. 85% browned barrel finish, 60% case-hardening. 80% varnish. Light wear. Scattered pitting and patina. Barrels appear skillfully shortened, with one slightly longer than other. Small stock crack from lock screw to barrel breech of one pistol, other with more wear and nicks to stock. One ramrod of shortened length.

Serial no. 34 (on cylinder). 8mm centerfire caliber. 6-shot fluted cylinder. 3 3/4-inch part round, part octagon barrel. Various proofmarks and other stampings, including initials "HDM" on frame. Blued finish. Checkered walnut grips with steel buttcap.
Condition: Very good. 65% blue, fading, with pitting, nicks, patina and wear. Mechanism needs adjustment. Chipping on left grip panel. Missing lanyard ring.

Slightly swamped barrel configuration, with "Canon A Damas" stamped on bottom of breech. Open sights. Floral and border engraved case-hardened lock, with matching engraved steel mounts. German silver escutcheon plate behind upper tang, with matching wedgeplates. Varnished and checkered walnut half-stock. Brass mounted wood ramrod.
Condition: Very good. Gray and brown patina to steel. Scattered pitting and patina, more pronounced at barrel breech. Wear to Damascus finish on barrel. Top of checkered hammer spur broken off.
