Pappenheimer Swept Hilt Rapier In The Style Of The Early 17th-century

Lot # 1025 (Sale Order: 26 of 651)      

Unmarked 47 1/2-inch tapered straight blade of diamond section. Copper-alloy swept hilt, the right side with pierced lobiate panel. Compound fine twist brass and steel wire-wrapped grip with turk's heads on ends. Faceted egg-shaped pommel with fluted finial. No scabbard.
Condition: Good. Metal with dark age patina and wear, showing faint traces of gilt finish on hilt and light pitting on blade.

Late 17th-century "walloon" Continental Broadsword

31 1/2-inch straight tapered blade with a 7-inch median narrow fuller and running wolf or Passau mark. Incomplete Amsterdam mark at base of blade. Lobiate form guard with side panels finely pierced with tiny stars and circles . Recurved quillon, knucklebow and thumb ring. Braided steel wire-wrapped grip. Orb-shaped pommel.
Condition: Good to very good. Metal with grey age patina and scattered light pitting.

Early 17th-century Dutch Backsword

31 1/2-inch tapered single-edge straight blade with double fullers, Blade marked: SALINGEN. Symetrical three-bar guard the front guard engraved with grotesque faces with floral scroll borders. Complex wire-wrapped fishskin spiral grip with turk's heads. Orb-shaped pommel with leaf motif. No scabbard.
Condition: Good. Blade heavily cleaned with scattered moderate to heavy pitting overall. Hilt with wear and pitting. Turk's heads are replacements.

34-inch tapered straight blade with single narrow fuller. Fleur-de-Lys touchmark. Semi-baskethilt pierced with three-bar panels on each side. Wire-wrapped fishskin spiral grip with turk's heads. Flattened spherical pommel with circular finial. No scabbard.
Condition: Good. Metal showing wear and scattered pitting. Grip with losses to fishskin and minor worming.

Rare And Historic Italian Schiavona-style Military Officers Sword Inscribed To Napoleon General Bapt

Lot # 1029 (Sale Order: 30 of 651)      

35-inch straight blade with full-length double fullers. Complex schiavona-style hilt with integral thumb ring. Knucklebow bar inscribed: General Bisson. 1809/Unter Wrede In Tirol. Wire-wrapped leather grip with plain steel ferrules. Chevron-shaped pommel flanked with hemispherical projections. Contained in original steel scabbard with two ring mounts.
Condition: Very good. Metal lightly cleaned with scattered light pitting and wear overall. Scabbard with light spotting and age patina.
Notes: General Baptiste Pierre Francois Bisson was born February 16, 1767; he served in Napoleon's 43rd d'Infantrie de Ligne, promoted Chef-de-Brigade September 19, 1794 (26e Demi-brigade de bataille); Chef-de-Brigade: May 23, 1796 43e demi-brigade d'Infantrie de Ligne; General-de-Brigade: July 5, 1800; General-de-Divison February 1, 1805; Grand Officer of the Legion d'Honneur, December 25, 1805. Awarded Count of the Empire March 10, 1810. Bisson served under Karl Wrede in the Tirolian campaign, he distinguished himselt in many engagements, including the battles of Marengo and Friedland. He died in Mantoue on July 26, 1811.

Early 17th-century European Cabasset

Of traditional form, the unmarked cabasset with crimped edge brim and single row of brass rivets at base.
Condition: Very good with scattered patches of light to moderate pitting and age patina overall. Interior with dark patina throughout. Holes have been drilled in brim at front and back for hanging.
Notes: The term 'cabasset' helmet design originated in Italy in the 16th-century and the word means 'pear'. The tiny little angled point on the crown was the "stalk" where the armourer held the helmet with pliers. After completion, it was bent backward and finished off with a file.

Comprising: 1) A gorget, having a roped edge and border etched with figural motifs. A row of brass rivets equally spaced along the outer edge. Two sculpted steel strap eyelets present on back section. Gorget appears of small size, possibly that from a child's suit. 2) A right pauldron, highly decorated with circular panels of portraiture and borders with etched panels of figural and floral scrolls. Three articulated spalders ornamented with brass rivets. 3) Two articulated spalders of another suit, this element with scalloped edge decoration and ornately etched panels. Two brass rivets present.
Condition: All are good to very good with minor edge erosion in places and period repairs present. Scattered areas of pitting and spalling of metal.

Comprising: 1) 17th-century war club, being an antique curved wooden haft fitted with a wrought iron spike of square section. 2) Wrought iron spearhead, Chiseled with incised borders and molded collar. Probably 17th-century. 3) Eight-sided finned head mace. Wooden haft missing. Probably 17th-century. 4) Small wrought iron buckler or war shield. Constructed of multi-element wrought iron filigree elements hammered and fastened with small minted coins or tokens as rivets. Some coins read: "Plus Ultra Lud Lauer Rech". Probably Bavarian. Cone-shaped obverse with stud finial. Ancient fabric lining with two iron handle rings. Diameter: 9 5/8-inches.
Condition: All are fair to very good, showing age wear, rust deposits and scattered pitting.

The rare and ornate money chest, the front with false keyhole lock mechanism with chased iron escutcheon plate of floral scrolls with eagle crest. Flanked with pierced decorative metal panels and molded iron frame. The heavy lid with complex internal "shooting bolt" locking mechanism and double-headed "Hapsburg" eagle key escutcheon plate. Double padlock hasps and riveted iron outer frame. Molded end handles and double-footed pedestal supports. Removable internal lock mechanism with pierced grill work guard. Size: 32-inches long x 18-inches high and 20-inches deep.
Condition: Very good. Showing dark age patina overall. Grill separated from lid, needing repair.
