The story that has been passed down with the pistol is as follows: 'When Michael Peveto, Jr. was around 18-19 years of age, he became a volunteer in Sam Houston's army. It has been understood that this pistol belonged to and was used by Michael Peveto, Jr., during that time, including the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836. Ammunition was in short supply and many of the volunteers used their guns as clubs when their ammo was spent. By tradition, this is how the stock was broken on the gun. The gun was converted to percussion from flintlock sometime after the battle. Michael died about three weeks after the battle from injuries sustained during the fighting. This gun could have also seen action by Michael Peveto, Sr. during the War of 1812 if the gun had previously belonged to the senior Peveto". Michael Peveto, Jr. was a member of the 2nd Regiment of Texas Volunteers, 3rd Infantry Company comm
