Firearm.Serial no. 47374, .36 caliber, 5-shot cylinder with standard roll-engraved scene; 6 7/16-inch octagonal barrel; two-line maker, Newark NJ and patent marking on top of barrel; scroll and border engraved in standard pattern on barrel, barrel lug, frame, gripstraps and hammer including wolfhead motif. Blued and case-hardened, with silver-plated brass gripstraps. Varnished select walnut grips.
Condition: Fine. Gray patina to steel; light pitting; traces finish; tracking marks on cylinder; 70% silver on triggerguard strap, 20% silver on backstrap; plating tarnished; grips with 95% varnish, light wear, nicks.

Vickers""; blued barrel cluster with balance silver-plated, including brass frame and triggerguard; varnished scroll relief carved ebony grips.
Condition: Fine. 90% blue on barrel cluster with spots pitting; 97% silver-plating, tarnished; grips fine.
Notes: This inscribed handgun is a rare and fine example of custom manufacture and decoration, including profuse engraving and deluxe relief carved ebony grips, on an American pepperbox firearm. The custom grip profile with flat gripcap were specially designed and made, as was the triggerguard with extreme rear curl.
