Condition: Excellent. Retaining approximately 85-90% nickel finish with slight wear present on sides of frame. Action excellent.
Notes: Manufactured in the 1880s. These No. 1 Derringers were first manufactured by Moore Patent Firearms Company, being the first large caliber metallic cartridge derringer pistols. The National Arms Company succeeded Moore in 1865 and five years later Colt acquired the National Arms Company and continued to produce the No. 1 Derringer as the No. 2 Derringer developed by National. This rare example was probably made during the acquisition period of National by Colt. The latter moved parts and workmen to the Colt factory. The configuration of this piece varies from the Colt marked specimens; the barrel is more rounded on the Colt and the spur sheath is straighter on the Colt. This gun is very rare because it is an iron frame; nearly all were brass framed examples.
