Fine Cased Percussion Knife-Pistol, Unsigned, Probably Belgian, c. 1860

Lot # 27 (Sale Order: 27 of 710)      

3 3/4-inch round barrel of approximately .25 caliber mounted on a folding-knife shaped like a pistol and having a folding-trigger; four ivory grip-scales set with screws (some replaced), spear-point folding-knife blade (retains traces of writing), german-silver mountings, contained within a black Morrocan-leather bound casing lined with beige chamois leather and fitted in the French manner, case contains small ivory cap-box, and lidded compartment with ivory pull, nickel-plated hinges and lock-mechanism, marked BRITISH MADE.
Condition: Very good overall, with some light staining overall, with blade bearing traces of writting, excellent ivory scales with aged patina, some replacement screws, case with excellent interior, exterior with some scuffs to leather, underside with applied sticker, lacking key.

Rare English Knife & Fork Pistol by Linsley Brothers, Leeds

.28 caliber, 3 1/2-inch blued octagonal barrel with top flat marked: Linsley Bros. Leeds. Engraved floral scrolls at breech and gripstrap. Folding trigger. Engraved hammer. Ivory grip scales, the sides removable by pushing forward, removing the scales to create individual knife and fork elements with folding blades.
Condition: Good. Barrel retaining approximately 80-85% finish with scattered wear and fine scratches. Polished steel with light wear and patina. Grips with light wear with one fine hairline crack present. Hammer spring broken, needing repair.

Folding triggers, one in the form of an awl, the other a cork screw. 4 1/4-inch spring-loaded spearpoint knife blade activated by pulling left trigger. Blade ricasso marked: PB. Line engraved bolsters. Bulbous shaped grip with carved mother-of-pearl grip scales. Brass gripstrap. Overall, a handsome and unique curiosa knife/pistol
Condition: Fine to excellent. Metal with scattered wear and age patina. Knife blade with minor chips to one edge. Grip scales with two period crack repairs. Knife blade spring a bit weak.

Contained in brown calf leather covered rose velvet-lined pipe-style casing with brass hook closure.
Condition: Fine to excellent, the steel showing grey patina and scattered light wear and age patina. Grip scales excellent. Mechanism needs minor adjustment. Case with scattered scuffs and heavy wear to leather and missing one closure hook.

Case lid with gold line borders and push-button closure. Size of case: 2 1/4-inches X 2 3/4-inches.

The accordion style black leather woman's pocketbook with nickel-plated frames, the last compartment with burgundy velvet-lined case containing a .22 caliber pinfire single-shot breech-loading pocket pistol. 1 3/4-inch hinged barrel with side-swivel barrel release. Blued finish. Scroll and floral-engraved frame. Folding trigger. One-piece ivory grip. Two separate hinged door compartments containing cartridges flank the pistol. Inside of lid with gilt label reading: L. Loeven/Fcant De Armes/rue de Rivoli/Paris. Overall length of case: 4 1/2-inches.
Condition: Excellent. Metal with grey age patina and light wear overall. Case excellent with light handling wear.

1-inch barrels with proof marks, engraved box-lock actions with concealed triggers, checkered ivory grips set with vacant escutcheon plates and engraved german-silver pommel caps; Mauchline-ware case decorated on the exterior with a comical depiction of a duel of the period of the 1820s, the sides decorated with floral scrolls, the base with finely executed cross-hatching; the case's interior lined in red felt and containing two compartments with green and gilt arabeques, the compartment's edges finished in gilt, the lid's interior lined with fur.
Condition: Very good, the pistols are cleaned overall and show evidence of percussion conversion.
