Black on white with an intricate and unusual brown body print with a brown 'copper belt' around one vignette and also a gold seal. State mines were located at Black Hills, Yavapai County, Arizona, located between Prescott and Jerome.

Feb. 15, 1840. Political letter from C.S. Stone of Pittsburg to R. Carothers in Harrisburg, devoted to politcal machinations. Mentions Loco Foco meetings... "Going bitterly against the U.S. Bank, urging a rigid reformation in banking system, resumption of specie payments" Mentions the "great Harrison meeting we have had.. such as must fill the opposition with fearful forebodings.." Harrison is Benjamin Harrison. No family news-- all politics. Four pages on rag woven paper. Usual seal hole and minor fold breaks on back page, but very acceptable.

Signed Land Warrant

Lot # 8037 (Sale Order: 43 of 506)      

A wonderful printed certificate from Cumberland County, Pa. The certificate bears the name of no other than Governor John Penn of Pennsylvania. In part, the certificate reads, "By the propreitors keeper of Pennsylvania, whereas John Little of the city of Philadelphia Tavern hath requefted that we would allow him to take up to two hundred and fifty acres of land including an improvement on Puniala Creek five miles above the crossing in Cumberland County." The document goes on to say that Mr. Little is paying the rate of fifteen pounds and ten shilliings for every one hundred acres. The title bears a large 3 1/2 inch signature of John Penn and is dated in the year 1760.

1882 Wyoming Territory Subpoena

A pre-printed, one page subpoena dated 1882 from "Territory of Wyoming - Johnson County" ordering "G.E.A. Moeller, Jobe Brazill, Delos Babcock, Edward Lawrence, William Murphy, William Holaran and bring the record of Brands..." in an upcoming court case against "Cephas Filch. Has an embossed county seal and signed by a court clerk on the front. On the back is a certification, entirely handwritten and signed by Sheriff Nat James that all of the men were informed of the subpoena - signed Nat James, Sheriff. Includes information on James' career.

A formal 12x17" document, dated 1918 from Austin, Texas. Has an ornate title at the top, "In the Name of the State of Texas" with a lone star vignette. The document grants 196 acres to a man in Stephens County "On the waters of Sandy Creek, a tributary of Brazos River, about 8 miles SW from Breckenridge." Has black on white printing with an embossed state steal and is signed at the bottom by "W.P. Hobby" as Governor.

Declaration of Citizenship Document

A handsome, formal 9x14" document, dated 1889 from San Francisco - declaring a minor "Clinton Porter" as a citizen of the United States - that he is formerly of Nova Scotia - and supports the U.S. Constitution and renouncing his allegiance to "Victoria - Queen of Great Britain and Ireland." The document is printed on vellum with a red title across the top reading "In the Superior Court of the City and County of San Francisco" with a large vignette of a bald eagle with a patriotic red, white and blue shield - has colorful red and blue printing throughout the document with a large red embossed seal at the bottom. Has one horizontal fold.

U.S. Marshal Letter

A four page, 6x9" letter, in pen, from "Conway Springs" (Kansas), dated Nov. 17, 1897 and addressed to "C.H. Thompson, U.S. Marshall, Gutherie, O.T." The writer of the letter, J.W. Hall, says he has talked to the Attorney for the "C.R. & P.R. (Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad) in regard to the train robbery committed on Oct. 1, 1897 of Train No. 3 - I have a clue by which we can arrest and convict the robbers. I know their names and can locate one and arrest him within 24 hours and can soon find the balance. I have proof to convict the whole of them. - we can capture the robbers and by doing so, capture the reward - come and see me - say nothing to no one. We must keep everything secret. I am a barber here in town. Write immediately and come at once. I mean business and know what I'm talking about..." The ltter is signed on the last page by Hall.
