Ed Howard Prospector's Letter

Lot # 8219 (Sale Order: 231 of 506)      

Seven page, folded leaf 5x8" letter, dated 1882 from Denver, Co. He spent the 4th of July in bad weather, and later describes hard-ships living away from civilization, no food, cold winters, hot summers, having to snowshoe 50 miles without anything to eat, etc. Closes the letter by asking his cousin to find him a pretty young blonde he can marry.

Handwritten, 5x8" document, dated June 7, 1860 from "Florence, N.T. (Nebraska Territory) and states in full - "I promise to pay on demand to (George) Q. Cannon or order after my arival in G.S.L. (Great Salt Lake) City, the sum of $6 for provisions received of him by me". The document is signed at the bottom "Hugh Cousens".

Will of Billy the Kid Judge

Lot # 8221 (Sale Order: 233 of 506)      

Last will and testament of Judge Warren Bristol who sentenced Billy the Kid to be hung. Two and a half page, 8x12" handwritten last will and testament of Warren Bristol, dated 1877, from Mesilla, N.M. Territory. The will bequeaths all of his land and personal property to his wife and also names his wife as executor of his estate. The document is signed at the bottom of the second page, "Warren bristol", with the final third page, being notarized by three witnesses from Mesilla - Thomas Bull, Jon Crouch and Elbridge Benton, all noted citizens of Southern New Mexico. The document has minor splitting on the fold lines, with a third page fold like separating about halfway across - repaired on verso with archival tape and not affecting any copy.

Fort Gibson, Indian Territory Letter

Two page,, 6x9" letter dated 1886 from Fort Gibson, Indian Territroy. The letter is addressed to a bank in Montana Territory re: problems with a soldiers account at the bank and a CD being held as security collateral. The letter is written and signed, "John Anderson, 1st Lt. 18th Infantry."
