Beadle's Dime Library Novel Vol 1 No. 3

Lot # 8401 (Sale Order: 408 of 506)

Dime novels were short adventure books that appeared weekly during the 19th century. The dime novel was the brain child of Erastas Beadle, who sold over five million copies between 1860-1865. The firm of Beadle and Adams employed writers who wrote a novel in about three days. These books, pulished in New York, were important to the history of the West because they made western experiences a grand adventure. Many easterners were inspired to move west and were the first step in creating the myth of the Old West providing glamour and excitement to the western experience and making heroes out of western characters, such as Kit Carson Jr. Vol 1 No. 3 features "Kit Carson Jr., the Crack Shot of the West".
