Daguerreotype - Indian Wars Artillery

Lot # 8499 (Sale Order: 505 of 506)      

1/2 plate. Circa early 1860s. Featuring 12 soldiers and men gathered around a cannon in a field. One officer leans on his sword while another has climbed on top of the cannon. Tents are visible in the background. A very unusual photo in a desireable size and contained in a gutta percha case with a western scene at the front and with an advertisement beneath the image for Littlefield and Parsons & Co., manufactures of daguerreotype cases called Union Cases.

Revolutionary War Letter - Gen. Goodwin

Revolutionary war letter signed "Nath. Goodwin, Maj Gen 5th" Undated 1pg ALS stampless folded letter addressed to Capt Nathaniel Staples of the Third Regt, Second Brigade formerly of Berkley, now of Taunton...by virtue of the Militia Law... therefore the Major General .. doth declare send Capt. Staples.. removed from the district of his command that it disqualified him to discharge his duties of his office as Captain.. position considered vacant.. Brigadier General Thomas Lincoln will give the necessary order for filling said vacancy... Small piece missing from seal removal. Most likely wardate letter as the movement of state militia officers was outlawed after 1783.†
