Royal Irish Constabulary Issued Lee-Enfield Bolt Action Carbine, #751, .303 British cal., 20.75" barrel, blued finish, walnut stock with handguard, blade front sight with attached protector, and adjustable folding leaf rear sight with "V"-notched groove; graduated to 2000 yards. This rifle also features a steel dust cover, flat bolt handle, and thumb release safety lever. Includes brown leather British 1903 pattern leather sling and brass oiler in the trapdoor buttplate; both are in good condition. Fitted with a 6-round magazine with chain, and magazine cut off. Originally manufactured as a British cavalry carbine and is marked "(Crown)/E.R/ENFIELD/1901/1*/L.E.C." on left side of the action body. Right side of the buttstock with "BIRMINGHAM/1903" and "(broad arrow)" roundel. It was later modified to R.I.C. standards to accept an 1888 pattern bayonet by splicing in a piece of wood to attach a new front barrel band with bayonet mount and fitting a larger muzzle ring to match the new bayonet. Brass marking disc on the right side butt stock was then stamped "1.05/R.I.C./8417" to show January 1905 issue to the Royal Irish Constabulary and assigned a rack number 8417. Bolt does not match. No visible import marks. Condition overall is good with the metal retaining approx. 70% blue, most parts showing thinning and brown toning. Handguard is cracked on the top, at the front and rear. Buttstock with dents and scratches scattered throughout, and there is a crack to the left side. Action operates smoothly. Bore is good with clear rifling. Est.: $800-$1,200. (C&R)
